    With over 13,400 square miles, Mohave County is the fifth largest county in the U.S., and sixth largest county by population in Arizona . Situated in northwestern Arizona, it borders Utah, Nevada and California and contains elevations from 500 to over 8,400 feet above sea level. Mohave County is a rapidly growing county and has over 209,550 full time residents. Populations can exceed 350,000 during the winter "snowbird" season. Most residents live in one of the four incorporated cities: Kingman (the County seat); Bullhead City; Lake Havasu City; or Colorado City. Mohave County has over 1,000 miles of fresh water shoreline along the Colorado River and its lakes include Mohave, Havasu and Mead. Boating, jet skiing, water skiing, fishing and white water rafting opportunities abound. Wilderness areas lie a short drive in any direction within the County. Campers, hikers, mountain bikers, rock hounds and horseback riders find easy access to scenic trails, hidden creeks, hot springs, and beautiful southwestern vistas. The western portion of the Grand Canyon offers hikers some of the most spectacular views in the United States. Laughlin, Nevada, lies across the Colorado River from Bullhead City providing easy access to gaming activities, entertainment and nightlife. Las Vegas is only 90 minutes from Kingman with a bypass to tour the historic Hoover Dam.    

    Job Description

    Job Summary

    The Mohave County Public Works-Traffic Control Division is currently recruiting for a Sign Technician Senior located Beaver Dam, AZ.


    The typical hiring salary is $21.09 - $25.93 - DOQ.


    Performs advanced level work in the fabrication, installation, maintenance, and repair of traffic control signs and pavement marking of roads on County-maintained roads. Positions at this level are distinguished from other classes within the series by the complexity of duties assigned and the additional duties and responsibilities involved in the operation of pavement marking equipment and materials. Incumbents perform the most difficult and responsible types of duties within this series. Incumbents at this level are required to be fully trained in all related procedures.

    REPORTS TO

    Work is performed under the general supervision of a higher level of authority.

    SUPERVISION EXERCISED

    Provides technical supervision including instructing, training, and directing less experienced Sign Technicians and Trades Helpers. May exercise functional supervision of subordinate personnel in the absence of higher level of authority.

    Essential Job Functions

    • Transports and operates pavement marking equipment and materials.
    • Assists in pavement markings and striping of county-maintained roads.
    • Determines appropriate signage and placement of warning signs and barriers in construction areas.
    • Fabricates, repairs, and maintains required signage.
    • Adheres to established governmental guidelines for uniformity, proper location of sign and meeting standards in the interest of public safety.
    • Adheres to safety procedures in work areas and in performance of work assignments.
    • Maintains and documents signage inventory.
    • Keeps records of signage activities.
    • Maintains an adequate supply of materials, equipment and tools required to fulfill work assignments.
    • Cleans, maintains and services required equipment used during performance of work assignments.
    • Utilizes welder, cutting torch, saws, grinders, and other related equipment in the fabrication of signs and barricades.
    • May utilize computer hardware and software to perform file management and graphic design.

    SECONDARY JOB FUNCTIONS
    • Performs special assignments as requested.
    • Performs related work as required.
    • Exercise regular and predictable attendance and punctuality in accordance with Mohave County Personnel Policies and Procedures.


    Minimum Qualifications

    • High School Diploma/ GED (General Education Degree).
    • Three (3) or more years' experience as Sign Technician or related field involving fabrication and installation of signs including some experience in pavement marking to include operation of commercial vehicles for transporting pavement marking equipment and materials.
    • OR an equivalent combination of education, experience, and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities may be considered in meeting the minimum qualifications.
    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
    • Possess a valid Commercial Driver’s License, Class A.
    SPECIAL JOB REQUIREMENT
    • Must pass drug screen post offer.
    • Must possess a valid driver’s license for operation of motor vehicles on Arizona roads at the start of employment and maintain said license while employed in this position.
    • Provide acceptable driving history at no cost to the County.
    • Must pass all pre-employment requirements.


    Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

    Knowledge of:
    • Methods, procedures, materials, equipment, and tools used for the fabrication, installation, maintenance, and repair of traffic control signs and related regulatory and warning devices and pavement marking.
    • Laws and regulations relevant to fabrication, placement, and maintenance of traffic control devices and pavement marking.
    • Rules and regulations regarding commercial driving relative to the operation and maintenance of commercial vehicles.

    Skill in:
    • The safe, effective operation and maintenance of hand and power tools and equipment including welding and cutting torches.
    • The operation of commercial vehicles for safe transporting of equipment and materials.
    • Effectively utilizing personal computer systems and applications in the performance of work assignments to include performing file management and graphic design.

    Ability to:
    • Effectively service, maintain and operate equipment in accordance with standard operating and safety procedures.
    • Maintain accurate and up-to-date chronological records and documentation.
    • Interpret and apply established guidelines and procedures.
    • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with associate personnel.
    • Understand and follow, quickly and accurately, oral, and written instructions.
    • Perform the essential functions of the job specifications with or without a reasonable accommodation.
    • Comply with Mohave County Personnel Policies and Procedures, and Department Regulations.
