    Job Description

    Job Location: This position will be located at Southeast Missouri Mental Health Center

    This is a first-level, non-commissioned investigator position accountable for performing investigative work of a variety of suspected criminal, civil, or other unlawful activities (e.g., antitrust, unlawful trade practices, financial fraud/embezzlement, breach of fiduciary duty, misapplication of entrusted property, forgery or falsifying business records, breach of contract, patient/client abuse and neglect, employee theft, or other major misconduct). At this level, employees may determine if evidence is sufficient to begin legal/administrative action; prepare reports to be used as evidence; recommend prosecution or administrative action, closing of a case, or resolution proposals; and provide trial support. Investigative work involves collection and analysis of evidence. Employees will review investigation supporting information; identify legal issues and jurisdiction; plan scope, timing, and direction of the inquiry; gather evidence and conduct fact finding either in an office setting or in the field through interviews, surveillance, covert activity, and legal searches; examine and analyze records and other information; and may testify in court or at hearings. Occasional coverage on other shifts may be necessary at times to meet the needs of SMMHC.

    Minimum Qualifications:



      Knowledge of the theories, principles, and practices of assigned suspected crimes and criminal activity or administrative/regulatory violations. Knowledge of state and federal laws, regulations, policies, and procedures applicable to the programs administered by the assigned agency. Ability to analyze, prepare, and/or present investigative evidence and other data. Ability to prepare clear and detailed reports of investigative findings. Ability to operate a motor vehicle and maintain a valid vehicle operator’s license. Ability to maintain fitness for duty, as required.

      Typical qualifications

      Bachelor’s degree. May require relevant certification/licensure. (Substitutions may be allowed.)
