      The City of Glendale was incorporated on February 16, 1906 and spans approximately 30.6 square miles with a current population of approximately 203,054 people (US Census 2017 Population Estimates). Located minutes away from downtown Los Angeles, Pasadena, Burbank, Hollywood, and Universal City, Glendale is the fourth largest city in Los Angeles County and is surrounded by Southern California's leading commercial districts. As one of its core functions, Glendale provides well-maintained streets and a variety of transportation services. The City's historic success at attracting employers is partially attributed to the result of its location at the center of four major freeways including the I-5 Golden State Freeway SR-2 Glendale Freeway ST-134 Ventura Freeway and the 210 Foothill Freeway   All these provide easy access for residents, workers, and customers from around the region. Glendale also offers its own bus services, the Beeline, with 13 routes connecting customers to Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL), the City of Burbank, and the Metrolink Stations in both Burbank and Glendale.   The Bob Hope Airport in Burbank serves the Los Angeles area including Glendale, Pasadena and the San Fernando Valley. It is the only airport in the greater Los Angeles area with a direct rail connection to downtown Los Angeles. The City of Glendale is located about 30 minutes from Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). LAX is a commerce leader and designated as a world-class airport for its convenient location, modern facilities, and superior sea/air/land connections. Businesses and residents alike have taken advantage of Glendale's central location, reputation for safety, excellent business environment, outstanding schools, state-of-the-art healthcare facilities, and growing restaurant and entertainment options. Glendale is also one of Southern California's leading office markets featuring a wide range of properties and amenities. The City has over six million square feet of office space and is home to such recognized firms as Walt Disney Imagineering, ServiceTitan, IHOP / Applebee's, DreamWorks, LegalZoom, and Public Storage. Glendale prides itself on the quality of services it provides to the community. It is a full-service City, which includes a water and electrical department. The City operates its own power plant capable of serving the electrical needs of the entire city, although the majority of power is currently imported from other areas for cost savings. Water comes primarily from the Metropolitan Water District, along with a small portion from local wells.

    Job Description

    The Position

    Under the direct supervision of the Principal Arts & Culture Administrator of the City of Glendale’s Library, Arts & Culture department, the Public Arts Intern will assist in providing programmatic and marketing support to the Arts and Culture Commission ’s initiatives including but not limited to: Adams Square Mini Park Gas Station Exhibits, Beyond the Box - Utility Box Mural Art Program, and Jewel City Concert Series. The Public Arts Intern will also assist in producing the Spotlight Series (podcast highlighting arts and culture organizations in Glendale) and updating the Glendale Public Art Map.

    The Public Arts Intern position is part of the LA County Department of Arts & Culture’s Arts Internship Program and is a temporary unclassified, non-civil service, hourly, part-time position with no medical, dental or accrued leave benefits, with the exception of AB1522 - healthy workplace healthy family act. Applicant must be a currently enrolled undergraduate college student or recent graduate who completed their undergraduate degree from May 1 - September 30, 2025) who is interested in a 20-30 hour a week internship from October 2025 through February 2026. Candidates must submit a current college transcript or proof of enrollment as part of the application process and agree to complete 400 hours of service by the end of February 2026.

    Essential functions of the job include, but are not limited to, the following:
    Ensures Department services are provided with exceptional customer service and the highest level of ethical standards.

    Attend meetings of the Glendale Arts and Culture Commission (ACC).

    Assist in preparing materials for the ACC meetings.

    Participate in staff meetings and team meetings related to marketing and publicity of ACC programs.

    Drives on City business.

    Assumes responsibility for ensuring the duties of the position are performed in a safe, efficient manner.

    Performs other related duties as assigned or as the situation requires.

    Minimum Requirements

    Experience
    No specific requirement. Experience in performing data entry work is highly desirable.

    Education/Training
    Must be currently enrolled in a community college in pursuit of an undergraduate degree. Must attach proof of enrollment via transcript. Failure to attach transcript or proof will result in automatic disqualification of application.

    Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
    Knowledge of:

    Exceptional customer service practices.
    Basic mathematical operations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. Basic office computer systems and applicable software.
    Proper English, spelling, and grammar.

    Ability to:
    Provide exceptional customer service to those using the Library, Arts & Culture Department.
    Model and practice the highest standards of ethical conduct.
    Read, write, communicate effectively and comprehend directions in English.

    Other Characteristics
    Willingness to:

    Assume responsibility for maintaining a safe working environment. Complete 400 hours of service by the end of February 2026.
    Work the necessary hours and times, including overtime, to accomplish goals, objectives and required tasks.

    Special Conditions
    This position is only open to currently enrolled undergraduate college students or recent graduates who completed their undergraduate degree from May 1 - September 30, 2025. Applicants must reside or attend college in Los Angeles County.
    Students who have already earned a BA, BS, or a higher degree (prior to May 1, 2025) are not eligible for the Los Angeles County Arts Internship Program.
    Students who have previously participated in the program are not eligible to participate a second time.
    Students must be able and willing to complete 400 hours of service by the end of February 2026.

    Valid Class C California driver's license is required.

    Selection Process

    EVALUATION OF APPLICATION: Submitted Application will be reviewed to ensure applicants meet the minimum requirements.     TIME AND PLACE OF THE EXAMINATION WILL BE ANNOUNCED. The City of Glendale reserves the right to modify the above stated examination components and/or weights. Should this be necessary, the candidates will be notified of the specific examination components and weights prior to the administration of any examination. The selected candidate will be subjected to a background check including Livescan fingerprinting.
