    Job Description

    Job Summary:

    This position provides safe, high quality, well-maintained and aesthetically pleasing sports fields and facilities while providing excellent customer service. This position is a working supervisor that specializes in leading a team of regular full time and part year staff who provide sports field maintenance to include:

    1) softball and baseball field maintenance and preparation

    2) grass field maintenance and field layout

    3) synthetic field maintenance

    4) routine maintenance of associated common spaces and structures

    The salary range for this position is $28.48- $39.87 per hour with a hiring range of $28.48 - $34.17, depending on qualifications and experience.

    This is a regular full time position with all the benefits available to City of Loveland employees. The Crew Leader position for the Sports Turf work group is an in-the-field leader of regular full time and part year non-benefit employees who are focused on providing high quality baseball, softball, multi-sport natural grass and synthetic fields for local programming, and regional and national tournaments. This Crew Leader should have strong leadership qualities with a focus on excellence in customer service. The position is 40 hours a week, but they will vary and are flexible through the year.

    Essential Functions:
    • Ensures safe, clean and well-maintained athletic fields and related infrastructure
    • Leads a team in the routine maintenance and renovation of softball, baseball, and multisport athletic fields, associated restrooms, parking lots and drives, and other amenities within parks.
    • Evaluates athletic field surfaces on a routine basis for safety and proper function.
    • Personally contributes to the completion of select maintenance activities through the safe and proper use of various tools and equipment and by spot problem solving and trouble shooting.
    • Makes the most efficient and effective use of resources through staff development; planning, scheduling and directing work unit, allocating equipment, resources and materials and by developing and implementing loss control strategies.
    • Contributes to improvements in policies and procedures by identifying needs, recommending new systems, methods and equipment and by making budget requests.
    • Work as an effective part of a City-team. Respond to change and special needs with flexibility and in a positive manner. Take initiative to resolve conflicts with others independently.
    • Communicate information accurately.
    • Monitors, maintains and updates records and responds to requests in an accurate, professional and timely manner.
    • Maintains dialogue and professional working relationships.
    • Assists in completion of winter work schedule activities and contributes to the completion of other assigned work by performing various maintenance tasks as directed.

    Other Job Functions:
    • Assists with department projects as needed.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.

    Job Level and Management Expectations:

    Supervisor for Temporary and Limited Benefitted Employees:
    • May monitor day-to-day operations. May provide direction to direct reports following standard
      practices and procedures.
    • May oversee tactical operations of support or trade employees.
    • May make recommendations regarding personnel decisions related to hiring, performance, or
      disciplinary actions.
    • Champions and embodies the company's mission, vision, values, and culture.

    Qualifications:

    Education:
    • Bachelor's Degree or higher in Park Management or a related field required.

    Experience:
    • 4 years Increasingly responsible experience in park maintenance and/or sports field management including equipment operations, pump station operation and maintenance, computer knowledge, and turf care required.
    • Some training in sports turf management highly preferred.

    An equivalent combination of education and or experience may substitute for education requirements on a year for year basis.

    Certifications:
    • Must possess a State of Colorado Department Agriculture Qualified Supervisor for pesticide use in Turf and Industrial Right-of-Way categories, or ability to obtain within six (6) months of hire.
    • Must possess a valid driver's license.
    • Certified Sports Turf Manager preferred.

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
    • Follow oral and written instructions.
    • Effectively supervise employees, plan, schedule and coordinate athletic field reservations, field preparation for practices and games, select maintenance activities including athletic field renovations and supervise contracted projects.
    • Communicate effectively in writing and orally using telephones and computers.
    • Use a computer for documenting inspections, writing reports, and electronic communications.
    • Budget, control costs and prepare reports using math principles.
    • Provide a high level of customer service, both internal and external.
    • Walk throughout sports fields to visually identify needed work and to inspect work results.
    • Sound technical knowledge encompassing all aspects of athletic field maintenance operations.

    Physical Demands and Working Conditions:
    • Frequent l ight to moderate physical effort that includes frequent standing or walking or maintaining arms and hands in the same position for repetitive tasks. Frequently works with light objects and light hand tools.
    • Frequent e xposure to heat and noise along with working outside in the elements.
    • Occasional e xposure to hazards typically found in general office environments where there is rarely to no exposure to injury or accident.
