    Job Summary

    Starting Salary:

    $19.15 - $24.40

    Performs skilled work in the operation of complex construction/maintenance equipment (see attachment C). An employee in this class is responsible for performing tasks of more than average difficulty involving the safe operation and routine maintenance of assigned equipment. Tasks at times are performed under hazardous conditions and employees are expected to be particularly alert and careful. Under general supervision, employees are required to exercise initiative and independent judgment in completing assigned tasks and work is reviewed while in progress and upon completion by observation and through results obtained.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    Ability to read, write and follow instructions, plus two (2) years experience in the operation of assigned equipment; or an equivalent combination of education, training or experience. Florida Commercial Driver's License Class A, B, or C required prior to employment depending on equipment assigned to position. Some positions may require a tanker endorsement permit prior to employment.

    Positions in Streets & Drainage Division require Aquatic, Right of Way, and restricted Pesticide License within twelve (12) months of employment depending on area of assignment.

    Definition:

    Complex, large equipment that normally requires formal and/or extensive training averaging three (3) months. Equipment is normally transported or operated on public roadways sometimes requiring a small crew. The consequence of errors can be major in terms of cost or repairs and damage to both public and private property and equipment. There is a chance of major injury to other employees and citizens.

    If this posting indicates a degree is required, the following experience will apply in lieu of any degree as follows:
    • Two (2) years of direct experience for an associate degree;
    • Four (4) years of direct experience for a bachelor's degree;
    • Six (6) years of direct experience for a master's degree; or
    • Nine (9) years of direct experience for a doctoral degree.
