The Santa Clara County Housing Authority is to provide and inspire affordable housing solutions to enable low-income people and families in Santa Clara County to achieve financial stability and self-reliance.

 

SCCHA is among the original 39 agencies out of approximately 3,200 PHAs to be granted Moving to Work status, a special designation from HUD that allows our agency to make strategic program and policy changes to better address Silicon Valley’s critical shortage of affordable housing. We seek to expand beyond operational efficiency to assist as many families as possible and pioneer housing strategies that can be replicated at PHAs nationwide.

Addressing the Local Housing Crisis

Santa Clara County is in a striking housing crisis, experiencing some of the highest housing costs in the nation. As a part of the solution to this challenge, SCCHA builds communities by developing quality housing offered at affordable rents. These development activities include site acquisition, community outreach, site and building planning and design, and construction.

Rooted in Local Partnerships

Like many endeavors this size, it takes a village to bring our affordable housing communities to fruition.  We partner with the County in addition to our local cities, including the City of San Jose.  Our real estate activities support several strategies and initiatives in the County’s Community Plan to End Homelessness, including prioritizing the development of housing for extremely low-income individuals and expanding permanent supportive housing.

In addition to public agencies, we partner with construction firms, architects and engineers, environmental engineers, appraisers, market analysts, and a variety of other partners to help develop our communities.

What Our Team Is Looking For: Any equivalent combination of education and/or experience likely to provide the required core competencies may be considered. A typical combination that is qualifying may include: A bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in community development, business, economics, urban planning, or a related field; and Five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in residential property development, acquisition, and/or rehabilitation, Low-Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) from applications and financing through conversion, to permanent financing, including two (2) years of experience supervising and managing affordable housing and development programs, budgets, activities and staff. How You Will Make an Impact: The Santa Clara County Housing Authority (SCCHA) is seeking a Housing Program Specialist I, which is an entry-level position to the Housing Programs Specialist series, to serve as the primary contact for all applicants applying for housing assistance programs and the administration of rental assistance programs. The incumbent will perform technical and programmatic aspects, requiring the interpretation and application of regulations policies, and procedures to determine the eligibility of program services, ensuring accurate processing of data, and compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
