    DEPARTMENT: Student Health & Counseling Services

    POSITION TITLE: Counselor - Psychologist (Student Services Professional-Academic Related 1)

    DEPARTMENT/COLLEGE SUMMARY:

    Sacramento State Student Health, Counseling, and Wellness Services (SHCWS) is a fully integrated health care/wellness facility. The Counseling and Psychological Services team at Sac State is dedicated to promoting the holistic well-being and personal growth of our diverse student population. We provide accessible, inclusive, and compassionate counseling services, fostering a supportive environment that empowers students to navigate life’s challenges, enhance their mental health, and thrive academically, personally, and socially through individual/group therapy, crisis management, psychoeducation, connection to resources, and outreach programs.

    POSITION DETAILS:

    Under the supervision of the Director of Counseling, the Staff Psychologist will provide a full range of culturally sensitive clinical and non-clinical services for the students at Sacramento State. As major focus of this position will involve conducting assessments, including ADHD, neurodiversity, and personality assessment as well as providing clinical services including short-term individual and couples counseling, group psychotherapy, crisis intervention, psycho-educational workshops, and case management. In addition to direct clinical services, the psychologist will provide campus outreach, training, and consultation to students, faculty, and staff.

    Although listed as a “temporary” position, this is a full-time position which is eligible for continuous renewal each year and includes a robust benefit package.

    Anticipated salary is $6,400 - $7,800 per month.

    JOB DUTIES:

    Direct Counseling/Clinical Services

    Provide direct clinical services including: assessment/diagnosis, short-term individual and couples counseling, group psychotherapy, crisis intervention and follow-up, and case management; collaborate with primary care physicians, psychiatrists, NP’s, and other medical providers to provide comprehensive care for students in compliance with EO 1053. This position may include the provision of tele health services on site.

    Assessment

    Provide comprehensive mental health assessments, including ADHD, learning disability, and diagnostic assessments. Demonstrated competence in administering the CAARS, CPT-3, WRAML-3, WMS-IV, WAIS-IV, CPI, and writing psychological evaluations. Collaborate with Disability Access Services for students needing accommodations. Conduct screening/testing for students presenting with ADHD/LD concerns.

    Outreach and Program Development Services

    Develop and implement programs including: presentations, workshops, prevention projects, residence hall training, seminars, mental health screenings and other outreach services as requested.

    Consultation

    Provide consultative expertise to the university community regarding issues that affect the mental health and psychological well-being of students; provide consultation and occasional in-service training to faculty, administrators, and student leaders on mental health and other psychological/social issues.

    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    Education/Credentials
    • Ph.D. or Psy.D in clinical or counseling psychology from an APA accredited program
    • Licensed as a Psychologist, LMFT, LPCC, or MSW in the state of California, or eligible for licensure within one year of hire.
    • Recent and relevant clinical practice experience.

    Clinical Skills
    • Experience providing assessment, diagnosis, and treatment planning within a brief therapy model.
    • Demonstrated experience providing individual and group therapy.
    • Demonstrated effectiveness in providing clinical services and support to underrepresented and marginalized populations, including students with diverse identities based on ethnicity, race, gender identity, sexual preference, disability, religion, and socio-economic status.
    • Experience working with high-risk clients.
    • Experience providing mental health urgent care and crisis intervention.

    Cultural/Racial Competence
    • Demonstrated commitment to the development of ongoing multicultural competency in personal, professional, and clinical contexts.

    Training/ Supervision
    • Experience and interest in providing clinical supervision.
    • Experience developing and offering small group training seminars and workshops.

    Consultation/Outreach
    • Demonstrated experience providing effective outreach presentations.
    • Experience providing mental health consultation.

    • Ability to collaborate effectively with a multidisciplinary team of mental health and primary care providers within an integrated health care facility.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
    • Experience providing counseling/psychotherapy in university counseling center.
    • Experience assessing and screening students with ADHD/LD concerns.
    • Interest in, and expertise in working with, non-traditional and first- generation students.
    • Experience providing services within a multi-disciplinary, integrated health care facility.

    OTHER SPECIFICS ABOUT THE POSITION:

    This appointment is a full-time, temporary 12-month in the Student Services Professional-Academic Related 1 classification. This is not a probationary position and does not establish consideration for subsequent appointments or any further appointment rights. However, this appointment may be renewed annually dependent upon satisfactory performance and program needs. The position will accrue vacation credit at the rate of 16 hours per month.
