    Information about the French Program in the Department of Modern Languages and Literatures:


    The purpose of the French major is to enable students to attain an advanced level of competency in speaking, listening, reading and writing, and to provide them with a comprehensive knowledge of the historic and contemporary culture and institutions of France and the francophone world.

    The French language is studied not as an end in itself, but as a vehicle for students' broader and more informed participation in their chosen fields. Courses taken abroad in the CSU International Program may be counted toward the major or minor or as an elective credit. Programs are available in Aix-en-Provence, Paris and Quebec.

    Duties of the Position

    Teach undergraduate French courses as needed at all levels (lower and upper-division) of French language and French/francophone culture, history, and literature. Must be able to work with diverse groups or faculty, staff, and students to create an inclusive environment.

    Professional Qualifications

    Required:

    *M.A. in French

    *Two years of university teaching

    *Native or near-native fluency in spoken and written French

    Preferred: * Ph. D. or ABD in French or Comparative Literature

    Rank and Salary

    Full-time is a 15-unit workload per semester. Actual salary is dependent upon the number of units assigned, educational preparation, and availability of funds subject to any CSU system faculty contract salary increases.
    • Salary commensurate with degree level and experience.
    • Anticipated Hiring Salary Range: $4,530 - $6,056 per full-time month.
    • The full-time (15 units per semester) monthly base salary range indicated above is prorated to the number of units worked and are paid in six monthly payments for each full semester.
    • Selection as a candidate in the applicant pool, does not guarantee employment. Temporary Faculty appointments are made on a part-time, temporary basis and contingent upon department needs and funding.
    • Temporary Faculty appointments are made on a semester-by-semester basis.
    • Relocation expenses will not be provided for temporary faculty appointments.
    • Expenses incurred to attend an interview for temporary faculty positions are not reimbursed by the University.

    department:

    - Temporary Faculty with three-year contracts do not need to reapply.
    - Temporary Faculty who have taught for the department within the past
    two years only need to submit an updated CV to remain in the pool.
