    DEPARTMENT OF PARKS AND RECREATION

    DEFINITION:
    Under close supervision, assists in coordinating or organizing recreation programs and services at one or more parks or facilities.

    CLASSIFICATION STANDARDS:
    Positions allocable to this class typically report to a Recreation Services Supervisor or higher-level manager and receive direction from Recreation Services Leaders to assist in facilitating a variety of recreation programs and services within an assigned region. Assignments are given verbally or in writing based on park policies and procedures.

    Employees must be able to provide exemplary customer service; ability to work independently; and possess effective verbal and written communication skills.

    Essential Job Functions

    Assists in developing, conducting, and promoting recreation programs, such as arts and crafts, nature education, theater arts, music, dance, sports, and holiday events including programs for special groups such as youth, people with disabilities, and senior citizens.

    Assists in observing free play, team activities, group classes, craft exhibits, and ensures park safety rules are followed.

    Assists in ensuring a safe, clean park environment.

    Sets up recreation areas, gymnasiums and playing fields for scheduled events.

    Records attendance and notifies participants of schedule and registration dates.

    Decorates community rooms for special events, creates bulletin boards and displays to promote park programs.

    Posts announcements of planned activities and answers inquiries from park patrons.

    Gives tours of park facilities and nature centers to groups by reservation or on an appointment basis.

    Performs various routine clerical duties related to park operations, recreational programs, and inventory of equipment/supplies.

    Arranges for equipment to be checked out by participants, checks their condition upon return, and properly stores them.

    Performs basic housekeeping tasks such as arranging chairs, putting supplies away, wiping down tables, chairs, toys and equipment.

    Monitors and closing of park facilities and amenities as needed.

    Attends and participates in in-service training programs, workshops, and meetings to enhance job performance skills.

    Performs routine public contact work, staff park entrance stations, provide information to the public, keep facilities clean and orderly, uses various tools and drive light vehicles.

    Visually check boats prior to launching at county lakes to determine if they meet sanitation and safety standards as needed.

    Performs related duties, as assigned.

    Requirements

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS :
    TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
    No training or experience is required.

    LICENSE:
    A valid California Class C Driver’s License or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related essential functions.

    PHYSICAL CLASS:
    3 - Moderate. Includes standing or walking most of the time, with bending, stooping, squatting, twisting and reaching; includes working on irregular surfaces, occasionally lifting objects weighing over 25 pounds, and frequent lifting of 10 -25 pounds.

    This is a noncompetitive examination. This examination is intended to merely qualify applicants. Applicants will be placed on an eligible register without indication of relative standing in the examination.

    ELIGIBILITY INFORMATION
    Applicants will be processed on an as received basis and promulgated to the eligible register accordingly. The names of candidates will be placed on the eligible register for a period of twelve (12) months from the date of promulgation.

    Applicants will be placed on an eligible register without indication of relative standing in the examination. The appointing power may appoint any one of the names on the appropriate register, except that a person without veteran's credit may not be appointed if there are three or more names on the list of persons entitled to veteran's credit.

    SPECIAL INFORMATION:
