Headquartered in Renton, Washington, located 12 miles south of downtown Seattle, the Washington Association of Sewer & Water Districts (WASWD) is a statewide membership organization composed of water-sewer districts, non-district utilities, and associate members who strive to advance the work of water and sewer utilities through education, advocacy, and collaboration.
WASWD is a nonprofit trade association whose members include approximately 115 water and sewer utilities and 100 other professional entities involved in the industry. WASWD has four regular employees, including the Executive Director, an Operations Manager, Operations Assistant, and an Administrative Specialist. The 2024 operating budget is $1.1 million. The Association also contracts with two lobbyists, a regulatory specialist, a communications specialist, and an attorney.
Working under the direction of the Board of Directors, the Executive Director serves as WASWD’s full-time chief administrator, overseeing daily management and operations of the Association. The Executive Director is responsible for working with the Board to set strategic direction, representing member interests on legislative and regulatory matters, promoting educational opportunities for member commissioners and staff, and performing outreach to current and potential members.
