Often referred to as the “Citrus Capital of the World”, the City of Santa Paula is the geographic center of Ventura County, situated in the rich agricultural Santa Clara River Valley. The beautiful City of Santa Paula is surrounded by rolling hills and rugged mountain peaks in addition to orange, lemon, and avocado groves. This idyllic setting is located northwest of Los Angeles and east of Ventura and is just 14 miles from the Pacific coast.
Today the City serves a population of 30,691 and covers an area of 5.4 square miles and is still growing. The community has a quaint, small-town vibe, ideal climate and reasonably priced housing. Santa Paula maintains its own identity and is in close proximity to the many tourist, recreational, and cultural activities that abound in Southern California.
The City is seeking an experienced Public Works professional with excellent communications skills and the ability to strategically plan and organize a dynam
ic workplan for a multifaceted department. The ideal candidate must have a proven track record of successfully managing projects and getting them across the finish line in a timely and cost-effective manner. Ideally, the successful candidate will be a certified professional engineer in the state of California, with experience reviewing plans. It is also important that the Director be an experienced leader, skilled not only in supervising staff, but also with the ability to motivate, guide and develop them as a team.
The successful candidate will possess a combination of education and experience that demonstrates the knowledge, skills and abilities needed to lead a high performing Public Works team, such as five (5) years of increasingly responsible experience in the administration and supervision of municipal Public Works and engineering projects. A Bachelor’s degree from a four year college or university with a Major in Civil Engineering or related field preferred. A Master’s degree is highly desirable. Registration as a Professional and Civil Engineer in California is highly desirable.
The annual salary range for the Public Works Director is from $135,786 to $165,095 based on the experience and qualifications of the applicant, plus a competitive benefit health and retirement package. The annual salary range for the Public Works Director with an Engineering Certificate is from $149,364 to $181,604.
