    Police Community Services Officer (College Intern)

    $25.98 - $33.15 Hourly

    This is a temporary, non benefitted position (up to 20 hours per week).

    The Position
    Under general supervision, the Police Community Services Officer College Intern performs a variety of non-sworn work in the field and administrative duties, including but not limited to:

    • Assist with traffic control at special events and parking enforcement.
    • Document and prepare reports of minor criminal related incidents and traffic collisions.
    • Assist various bureaus within the Police Department.
    Other assignement and duties will be determine based on qualifications and operational needs. Police Community Services Officer college interns are required to wear a Department-issued uniform and work shifts as assigned, including weekends and holidays.

    The successful Police Community Services Officer College Intern candidate:

    • Can meet and deal tactfully and effectively with the public especially when communicating municipal codes, ordinances and laws.
    • Is a great listener, has strong communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Posses strong decision-making and conflic-resolution skills.
    • Works effectively with moderat degree of independence and is self-assured with the ability to exercise a high degree of common sense and sound judgement.
    • Remains calm, alert and professional in routine and stressful situations.
    • Understands and applies Police Department operating procedures, policies, and laws.

    The Town of Los Gatos and the City of Monte Sereno have a combined population of about 34,000 residents who enjoy a high quality of life with low crime rates. The LGMS Police Department is budgeted for 39 sworn and 21 civilian personnel and has over 50 community volunteers. The members of the LGMS Police Department work hard to provide a full range of services. They are committed to providing our residents, businesses, and visitors with the highest quality service.     Minimum Qualifications

    Minimum Qualifications
    • Graduation from high school or equivalent
    • Possession and maintenance of a valid California Driver’s License with a satisfactory driving record is required.
    Desired Qualifications
    • Candidates pursuing a career in law enforcement are highly desired
    • Ability to fluently speak and understand a foreign language
    • Maintain a minimum of nine (9) semester college units or twelve (12) quarter units during employment
    • Ability to work a minimum of 16-20 hours per week, including weekends.
