General Summary

This position serves the citizens of Atlanta by providing direct support to the Pollution Control Monitor Senior and operates as a team member for the Creek Crossing and Right-of-Way Inspections Team within the Stormwater Compliance Division. This position ensure the Stormwater Compliance Division is compliant with the City’s First Amended Consent Decree. Individual inspectors will conduct inspections of sewer mains at elevated aerial creek crossings and sewer mains/force mains, right-of-way’s and easements. These inspections identify structural damage to the sewer main crossing and prevent sewer spills to our local creeks, rivers and streams. This position requires work outdoors in inclement weather, year-round in challenging conditions such as traveling by foot through areas with no developed access.

Supervision Received

Most of the work in the position requires working with a team, some task require working independently and providing feedback to Supervisor and Management. This position normally receives guidance regarding overall mission, scheduling, unusual priorities, etc.

  • Ensures daily task and inspections are completed properly and timely
  • Reports Deficiencies identified during inspections to Team Lead
  • Ensures inquiries and complaints are responded to promptly
  • Decisions made in the field are to ensure individual safety and that of the general public. Leadership is provided to staff daily.


Required, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Knowledge of regulations, concepts, principals, and procedures related to stormwater compliance and inspections as necessary in the completion of daily responsibilities. Candidate must have general knowledge of applicable ordinances, policies and regulations pertaining to the specific duties and responsibilities of the job. Have the ability to keep abreast of any changes in policy, methods, and operations, as they pertain to departmental inspections, operations and activities. Must be organized and possess strong leadership skills. Must be able to effectively communicate with management, team members and the public. Has the ability to utilize and understand computer applications and techniques as necessary for database management and the completion of daily assignments.


Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

High school diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED)equivalent. One (1) year of experience in industrial waste inspections, wastewater monitoring, and/or compliance activities.

Preferred Education & Experience

Associate’s degree in Engineering, Biology, Chemistry, or one of the Earth Sciences and five (5) years of experience in industrial waste inspections, wastewater monitoring, and/or compliance activities.

Licensures and Certifications

A valid State of Georgia Driver's License is required. GACE (Georgia Association of Code Enforcement Officials) certification or the ability to obtain one. Wastewater Laboratory Analyst certification and/or Wastewater Operator certification are desirable. Georgia Soil and Water Conservation Commission Level II, National Green Infrastructure Certification Program, Citation book, Code of Enforcement certification/badge, Pollution certification, Environmental Science certification.
