  • Job Description

    Minimum Qualifications

    Four years of full-time experience in the electrical trade under a skilled tradesperson which would provide training equivalent to that given in a training, apprenticeship, or equivalent program, OR an equivalent combination of experience and training gained by completion of technical courses in the electrical trade at a school,
    institute, or branch of the Armed Services; OR successful completion of the two-year Trades Specialist (Electrician) traineeship or a two-year electrician training, apprenticeship, or equivalent program* such as the New York State Civil Service
    Employees Association-Partnership Applied Skilled Trades Traineeship and Certificate Program.

    * Successful completion of the traineeship and the training program includes a total of 288 hours of trade-specific classroom instruction, 45 hours of technical math course work, 45 hours of technical communications course work, and 15 hours of
    blueprint/schematic reading course work. Course work must be completed with an average of “C” or better. Additionally, successful completion of the traineeship also includes 4,000 hours of on-the-job training.

    If verifiable, we will accept and prorate appropriate part-time and volunteer experience.

    Duties Description

    Duties include, but are not limited to:
    • Installs fixtures, motors, and various electrical components consistent with specifications and electrical codes.
    • Diagnoses and resolves electrical system malfunctions.
    • Tests electrical equipment to ensure safety and efficiency.
    • Inspects circuits and wiring and performs necessary rewiring of systems.
    • Supervises others in the repair, maintenance, and installation of electrical systems and equipment.
    • Supervises and trains subordinate staff in the proper use of small hand tools, any specialized trade machinery, equipment and/or materials that are utilized in the maintenance of electrical systems.
    • Maintains shop machinery and equipment to make sure work areas and equipment are clean, safe, and properly serviced.
    • Operates light trucks, passenger vehicles, tractors and other equipment as required.
    • Conducts inspections of facilities/equipment and makes recommendations for repairs or replacements.
    • Interprets and follows architectural blueprints, diagrams, and specifications.

    Additional Comments

    OPERATING NEEDS:
    • May work weekends and various shifts, holidays, and special events. Specific schedule will be discussed at the time of interview.
    • Selected candidate must possess a New York State Motor Vehicle Operator’s License by date of appointment and maintain it as a term and condition of employment.
    • Possession of a Class A or B CDL is preferred.
    • Ability to prepare job estimates and order shop supplies.
    • Must be able to perform medium to heavy physical labor.
    • Follow appropriate safety standards.

    The hiring rate listed combines the statutory hiring rate for CSEA Grade 12 ($48,956) with the Downstate Adjustment ($3,400). Similarly, the job rate posted is a combination of the statutory job rate ($59,757) and the Downstate Adjustment ($3,400).
