Environmental Services invites you to join our team as a Community Outreach Liaison in the Tidy-Up Tacoma Section in the Division of Solid Waste! Tidy-Up Tacoma is a community cleanup program funded through solid waste excise taxes. The program performs litter and debris cleanup in the public right-of-way and on public property, operates the public litter can program, cleans garbage from in and around homeless encampments, mitigates graffiti and performs trail maintenance.
The Community Outreach Liaison will support efforts that have a direct impact on community cleanup and litter education efforts. This individual will build partnerships both internally and externally, and most often rely on interpersonal influence, as well as strong cultural competency to achieve program success.

The Community Outreach Liaison will be tasked with developing and employing a city-wide litter education program and will work with a wide variety of partners to coordinate cleanup services within the city. This program will help address chronic issues impacting the overall cleanliness, safety, and stability of neighborhoods, city facilities, and environmentally sensitive areas.

Within the Tidy-Up Tacoma Section, the Community Outreach Liaison will:
  • Create and employ the Litter Education and Abatement Program.
  • Conduct outreach efforts and represent Tidy-Up Tacoma at Community Meetings, Events, and Festivals.
  • Coordinate cleanup efforts in the city and order and provide supplies and support to community-based cleanup organizations.
  • Manage the Adopt-a-Spot and Litter Patrol Programs.
  • Manage the Private-Property Graffiti Mitigation Program.
  • Monitor, and evaluate contracts for cleanup and graffiti services in the community.
  • Collect and use data to document program results.
Work Hours
The schedule for this position will be a standard day shift, Monday through Friday. However, this position will flex their time to accommodate weekend and after-hours meetings as needed to meet the demands of the section.

Working Conditions
Work includes indoor and outdoor environments, is subject to adverse weather and working conditions, and driving from site to site. Outreach and engagement will involve tabling at local fairs, events, and festivals, which includes standing and speaking with community members frequently.

Qualifications

MINIMUM EDUCATION*
Bachelor's degree in business or public administration, or social/ human services.

AND

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE*
2 years professional program work in human or social services administration.

*Equivalency: 1 year of experience = 1 year of education

DESIRED QUALIFICATONS:
Two years of experience in solid waste management, education, communications, community outreach, environmental sciences, or related fields.
LICENSES, CERTIFICATES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS
Valid Washington State Driver's License.
Individuals will have to pass a background check.
