The Position

Portland Streetcar is looking for a Streetcar Maintenance Supervisor

Job Appointment: Full time. Regular.
Work Schedule: Training Schedule then Swing Shift: 4 x 10-hour days Wednesday - Friday 1400 - 0030, Saturday 1300-1100.

Position Summary
The Portland Streetcar Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for the day-to-day work assignments and supervision of maintenance and repairs of the Portland Streetcar fleet and associated assets. This position is fast paced, interesting and allows for many training and growth opportunities.

  • Plan, organize, manage, and optimize the work of staff engaged in maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of Streetcar vehicles and associated assets.
  • Monitor employees work performance, assist with training, coach and work through the discipline process when needed.
  • Manage employee time entries, perform compliance and preventative maintenance checks and schedule overtime/holiday work when needed.
  • Be creative, innovative, and collaborate with team members and partners to achieve the best outcomes for the City.
  • Physically troubleshoot and repair streetcar vehicles and assets.
  • Sustain a culture of safety, organizational excellence, stewardship, and professionalism.
  • Apply continuous improvement principles in standard daily work and long-range planning.
An Ideal Candidate will have at least 5 years of career experience performing maintenance and repair of rail transit assets and or heavy equipment.

To Qualify

Applicants must describe in their supplemental question responses and résumé how their education, training, work experience and/or lived experience, meets each of the following minimum qualifications:

Experience utilizing techniques, tools and equipment used in the installation, testing, maintenance, AND repair of electrical systems related to rail or applicable systems.Experience diagnosing, troubleshooting, and resolving mechanical, electrical, AND electronic maintenance problems with rail systems vehicles or applicable systems.Experience communicating effectively both orally and in writing.Experience establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders such as: employees (represented and non-represented), managers, public safety personnel, contractors, vendors, the public and others encountered in the course of work.Ability to to obtain information from laws and regulations and apply it to your role.Ability to identify issues related to safety, and make decisions, in a high stress environment. Applicant must also possess:
  • A valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record
  • Ability to obtain Class B commercial driver’s license within six months of hire.
  • Ability to pass pre-employment drug screen with regular random tests per Federal requirements.
