Job Description

Full-time position available with the Public Works Department, Traffic Signals Division located at 5310 Municipal Ave
Salary Range: $20.10-$30.64/hour
Normal Work Days/Hours: Monday-Friday, 7:30 a.m.-4:00 p.m.

Responsibilities

  • Performs basic tasks in the installation, repair, and maintenance of electrical equipment, such as installing wall plugs and receptacles and repairing short circuits.
  • Makes welding repairs on metal buildings and equipment requiring less than journeyman level skill to complete.
  • Uses acetylene and electrical welding equipment to repair tables, benches, ovens, grills, and other metal equipment.
  • Performs basic tasks in the installation, repair, and maintenance of plumbing facilities.
  • Assists in cleaning and repairing water and sewer lines and in laying new lines.
  • Operates basic machine tools in the basic fabrication, maintenance or repair of metal parts, tools, and equipment.
  • Performs less complex engine lathe and drill press work in varied materials including wood, brass, steel, cast iron and pipe.
  • Assists in painting and decorating interior and exterior surfaces of municipal buildings, furniture, and equipment.
  • Prepares various surfaces for painting by washing, scraping, and sanding.
  • Performs general maintenance repair work at municipal buildings including modification, repair and maintenance of buildings, fixtures, grounds, runways, and other facilities and participates in snow removal operations when necessary.
  • Performs and assists in the maintenance, repair, modification and testing of gasoline or diesel powered automotive, grounds maintenance and construction equipment.
  • Operates lift and large trucks, various construction, and site-specific equipment.
  • Performs related duties as required.



Qualifications

REQUIRES completion of a trade school or a shop training program; OR 6 months experience in general maintenance and repair work. May be required to obtain a valid MO Class A,B, or C CDL prior to the end of the probationary period as determined by the department. Must pass a pre-employment drug screen and post-offer physical examination as prescribed by the City.

For positions with a salary grade of EX6 or higher that require an accredited degree, qualifying professional experience must be obtained AFTER the accredited degree is obtained.
Successful completion of a pre-employment criminal history/background check is required for all positions. Some positions require a post offer drug screen and/or physical.

If appointed, non-residents must obtain residency inside Kansas City, Missouri's city limits within nine months.
