A Water Systems Technician I job is available with the City of Fort Worth Water Department Plant Operations Division. Plant Operations is responsible for 5 Water treatment plants, one wastewater treatment plant, and multiple lift stations, tanks, pump stations, and large meters for the City of Fort Worth as well as customer cities. The successful applicant will be responsible for the operation and maintenance of the of the city’s water and wastewater treatment plants and facilities; and perform a variety of technical and manual labor tasks as assigned. Minimum Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or GED certification
  • Valid Class Driver’s license
  • Possession of or ability to obtain either a Water or Wastewater Class D license.
  • Must pass Physical and Drug Screening

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Possession of or ability to obtain a Water or Wastewater Class C license within 3 years of hire.
  • Previous experience working in a water utility.

The Water System Technician I job responsibilities include:
  • Operates and adjusts treatment plant pumps, motors, feeders and other equipment
  • Participates in routine laboratory analysis at various stages of the treatment process to determine plant efficiency
  • Assists mechanical staff with maintenance of facilities and equipment, such as adding oil or grease to components
  • Records information obtained from charts, gauges, meters and scales
  • Participates in monitoring the work area to ensure a safe working environment
