The Long Beach Police Department has an opening for a full-time, unclassified Clerk Typist III in the Community Services Bureau. The position will provide direct support to the Commander of the Collaborative Response Division

The Long Beach Police Department is the second largest municipal police agency in Los Angeles County and provides law enforcement services to the 7th largest city in the State of California. EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

  • Prepare, assign, and distribute bureau and divisional project assignments.
  • Initiate and process divisional purchase related duties.
  • Handle divisional mail runs, timecards, and paystubs.
  • Prepare and proofread correspondence and memorandums.
  • Process uniform, equipment orders and office supplies for sworn and civilian personnel.
  • Monitor and maintain the division commander’s calendar.
  • Compile information and data for use in the preparation of various reports.
  • Assignments as requested by the Division Commander and Lieutenant.
  • Perform other duties as required.


REQUIREMENTS TO FILE

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
  • Valid California Driver's License.
  • The ability to type accurately at a net speed of 40 words per minute and perform basic clerical and office support duties.
  • The ability to work cooperatively with others and the public.
  • The ability to file in alphabetical and numerical order and perform clerical detail, which includes making simple mathematical computations and correcting error in grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
  • Proficiency in the use of computers and Microsoft Office programs, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and TEAMS/SharePoint.
  • Ability to work holidays, weekends, and overtime as needed.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • At least three (3) years of professional experience performing progressively responsible clerical functions in an office setting.
  • Experience working for a law enforcement agency or public safety entity.

  • Excellent customer service and organizational skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work with staff and management at all levels of the department and the City.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, be flexible, and manage multiple assignments in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to prioritize and handle a variety of tasks and assignments, while ensuring timely completion.
  • Ability to work effectively with a wide variety of people and populations by consistently exercising tact, good judgment, and a proactive, problem-solving focused style.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Demonstrate ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
  • Demonstrate great attendance and professionalism.
  • A willingness to learn new software programs and an interest in technology.
  • Ability to deescalate and resolve conflict effectively.
