    The Position

    Social Workers are licensed professionals who provide case management services to children, families, vulnerable adults with intellectual, developmental, physical disabilities, serious mental illness, and older adults (collectively referred to as "vulnerable adults") and other individuals within local communities and institutions.

    Incumbents perform in a trainee capacity and acquire the knowledge, skills and abilities required in this occupation.

    The Division of Child and Family Services (DCFS) is recruiting for a Social Worker (SW) 1 underfilling a SW 3 for the Intake Unit in Carson City. This position is responsible for the initial Intake Assessment to identify children who may be in need of protection, collecting thorough pertinent information through motivational interviewing so that a sound and sufficient safety decision can be made. Information is gathered in accordance with the Intake Policy. Incumbents are responsible to understand the SAFE model, especially with present and impending danger. Conduct and document Diligent Searches according to statewide policy and DCFS procedure. Respond to after-hours on-call emergencies. Act in accordance with statute, regulation, policy and procedure. A current Nevada Social Work license is a requirement for employment.     To Qualify:

    In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
    Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications) Licensure or provisional licensure as a Social Worker, Clinical Social Worker, Independent Social Worker or Associate in Social Work. Special Requirements This position is subject to call-out or call-back. Working evenings, weekends, and/or holidays is required by the Division of Child and Family Services. A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment. A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant. The Division of Child and Family Services requires this position to be subject to on-call. Licensure or provisional licensure by the State of Nevada Board of Examiners for Social Workers as a Social Worker, Clinical Social Worker, Independent Social Worker, or Associate in Social Work is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of employment. The Examination Application Evaluation Exam The exam will consist of an application evaluation. It is essential that applications include detailed information with time frames regarding education and experience. The most qualified applicants will be contacted by the hiring agency for interview.     The presence of Nevada's earliest inhabitants, beginning about 12,400 years ago, is marked by many petroglyphs and archaeological sites. Baskets, decoys, and ingenious traps are evidence of the resourcefulness of these early people in a harsh and arid environment.

    Today, Nevada is the nation's seventh largest state in land area. Several hundred mountain ranges cross its landscape, many with elevations over 10,000 feet. In contrast, the State's lowest point (along the Colorado River) is only 470 feet above sea level. From majestic mountains to desert valleys, nature has endowed Nevada with diverse and unique ecosystems.
