    What You'll Be Doing

    Do you have a passion for public safety and education? If so, join our dedicated team in Wake County as a Fire Training and Logistics Specialist! The Fire Service Training and Logistics Specialist position serves a vital role at the Wake County Fire Training Center to ensure fire personnel are equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge to respond effectively in emergency situations.

    Essential Functions:
    • Develop, coordinate and deliver comprehensive training programs that enhance the skills, knowledge and preparedness of fire service personnel
    • Coordinate, schedule and assist Fire Tax District departments in the use of the Fire Training Center, as well as facilitate and deliver the annual Essentials of Fire Training Weekend Schools
    • Serve as a liaison with Wake Technical College for fire training within the Wake County Fire Tax District, ensuring that county equipment is tracked, maintained and ready for operation
    • Assist with purchases and the delivery of Fire Tax District and Emergency Management loanable equipment as needed
    • Report to the Fire Training Manager and support the “Career in a Year" Fire Academy Program

    About Our Team

    Wake County Fire Services operates under the control of Wake County Government with three separate divisions: The Fire Prevention and Response Division provides fire code enforcement and response assistance as requested in the county; The Emergency Management Division is responsible for all hazards planning for the county as well as radiological protection planning for the Harris Nuclear Plant; The Operations Division provides oversight and operational coordination for all fire departments, supply chain management and training for the county. Our function is to ensure our partner agencies receive quality service and response. Our focus areas for this position include supply chain management for assets within the Fire Tax District and Fire Services Division to include the development of specifications, submissions of requisitions, management of detailed tracking and replacement schedules, as well as payments of vendors within the Wake County Financial Systems.

    The Basics (Required Education and Experience)

    • High School Diploma or GED
    • Five years of experience in fire services
    • Two years of experience in fire service training
    • Fire Instructor Level I
    • NC Firefighter Certification
    • Hazardous Materials Operations Level I
    • NIMS 700, 800, 100, & 200
    • Valid Driver's License and "safe" driving record
    • Equivalent education and experience are accepted

    Beyond the Basics (Preferred Education and Experience)

    • Fire Instructor Level II
    • Live Burn and LP Gas Qualified
    • Qualified Fire Instructor


    How Will We Know You're 'The One'?

    • Knowledge of principles and methods for curriculum and training design, teaching and instruction for individuals and groups, and the measurement of training effects
    • Ability to conduct tests and inspections of products, services or processes to evaluate quality or performance
    • Ability to select and use training/instructional methods and procedures appropriate for the situation when learning or teaching new things
    • Ability to watch gauges, dials or other indicators to make sure a machine is working properly
    • Ability to determine how a system should work and how changes in conditions, operations and the environment will affect outcomes
    • Knowledge of applicable National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) codes and life safety requirements
    • Understanding of hazardous materials evaluation and related code
    • Understanding of current industry standards by developing relationships with industry leaders, experts and companies
    • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communications skills

    Emergency Service Worker Statement
