For employees belonging to the Inglewood Management Employee Organization (IMEO), a 5% salary increase will take effect on January 1, 2025 . POSITION Under general direction, manages staff engaged with the City’s engineering projects, including traffic, water, sewer, storm drain systems, streets, sidewalks, curbs, gutters, and City facilities/structures.

TASKS - Reviews plans, specifications, estimates, and project studies prepared by staff, consultants, contractors, and developers;
- Prepares and administers Division budget and monitors expenditures; recommends the purchase of equipment and assists in the development of specifications;
- Receives, investigates, and responds to citizens’ complaints or inquiries; develops and implements policies, procedures, goals, and objectives for the Division.
- Inspects work of assigned staff in progress and upon completion and evaluates performance;
- Attends departmental and outside meetings with local, regional, and state committees.
QUALIFICATIONS Must be registered as a Civil Engineer in the State of California
AND have seven years of experience performing and managing progressively complex Civil Engineering designs and projects, including three (3) years of supervising other engineers and staff. Must have and maintain a valid CA Driver’s License. Depending on the City’s needs, incumbents in this job classification may be required to possess or obtain additional licenses and certifications.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND OTHER CHARACTERISTICS - Knowledgeable of r esearch, analytical, and report preparation methods; quality engineering principles and practices; budgeting and purchasing techniques and procedures; City policies and procedures relating to employment, vendor contracts, capital improvement projects, etc.
- Skilled in interpreting and applying administrative policies, regulations, and operational procedures to communicate clearly and concisely orally and in writing; developing, maintaining, and coordinating activities and assignments for engineer projects; assessing the organization and operational needs of the City, departments, and outside entities in urgent or emergencies;
- Ability to exercise sound judgment in performing essential duties, effectively problem-solve day-to-day program-related needs, issues, and concerns; prioritize, delegate, and monitor staff work assignments; prepare well-organized and accurate documents such as reports, memos, and correspondence; synthesize ideas and factual information into clear and logical written statements; demonstrate fiscal responsibility in decision making;
- Proficient in using work-related computer applications, including e-mail, word processing, spreadsheets, databases, the internet, and other electronic devices to perform essential job duties.
THE SELECTION PROCESS Applicants whose experience best meets the city's needs will be invited to participate in the examination for this position. Candidates must have access to a computer with internet, video, and audio capabilities to participate in our examination process.
The examination may consist of one or more of the following: (1) Training & Experience Evaluation, (2) Writing Exercise, and (3) Qualifications Appraisal Interview with a panel of subject matter experts. Candidates must receive a score of 70 or higher to have their names placed on the active eligibility list for one year.
