    This is a Non-Perm, Part-Time position.

    This is an excellent opportunity to work for the Community & Library Services Department. We have an outstanding career opportunity available, as we're looking for the "right person" to serve as PT Program Coordinator - Youth Sports Program. This role involves collaborating closely with the Recreation Coordinator to facilitate and enhance program offerings in the Youth Sport Program. The ideal candidate possesses at least three (3) years of experience in youth sports facilities and/or managing sports programs. Responsibilities include scheduling and coordinating scorekeepers, youth sports officials, and coaches for pee wee and junior sports leagues. The role also involves various miscellaneous duties based on program needs.

    The incumbent that fills the current vacancy at Edison Community will work 20 hours a week and should also have the flexibility to be scheduled on nights and weekends.

    Temporary/part-time employment is restricted to 1,000 hours within a 12-month period (July 1 - June 30) and does not qualify to receive City benefits, except those required by law. The City does not belong to the Social Security system. However, enrollment in an alternative retirement program is mandatory which requires an employee contribution of 7½% of base earnings to the Public Agency Retirement System (PARS). There are no rights to employment and employment may end with or without cause or advance notice. Further restrictions apply to CalPERS Retired Annuitants.

    Examples of Essential Duties

    • Collaborate with the Recreation Supervisor/Coordinator to develop, implement, and oversee youth sports programs that promote participation and skill development.
    • Organize and schedule scorekeepers for sports leagues, ensuring accurate record-keeping and timely reporting.
    • Coordinate logistics for games and practices, including field or facility reservations, equipment distribution, and communication with participants and families.
    • Respond to customer inquiries, provide information regarding community programs, and register customers for recreational activities, as necessary.
    • Ensure compliance with safety protocols and organizational policies, creating a positive and inclusive environment for all participants.
    • Assist in marketing and promoting youth sports programs through social media.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Knowledge of and ability to:
    • Strong understanding of Youth Sports programming in a municipal setting.
    • Proficient writing, proofreading, and editing skills.
    • Ability to effectively listen and provide assistance to internal and external customers in a professional and courteous manner.
    • Able to work with minimal supervision.
    • Ability to quickly and effectively respond to changes in direction.
    Education and Experience :
    • High school graduation or equivalent certificate required.
    • Three years of directly related experience in youth sports
    Certification :
    • CPR/First Aid Certificates must be obtained within three months of appointment.
    SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED:
    Reports to : Recreation Supervisor/Coordinator.

    Public Employee Disaster Service Worker: In accordance with Government Code Section 3100, all Huntington Beach city employees are required to perform assigned disaster service worker duties in the event of an emergency or a disaster.

    The SALARY RANGE is composed of seven steps. Merit step increases are based on satisfactory performance.

    PROMOTIONS within the City are based upon the merit system principles emphasizing individual ability and utilizing competitive examinations.

    CREDIT UNION membership is available to all City employees and provides access to low interest loans.

    THE CITY GOVERNMENT

    Founded in the late 1880s, Huntington Beach was incorporated as a Charter City in 1909. Huntington Beach has a City Council/ City Manager form of government. The City Council has seven members who are elected at large, on a non-partisan basis, to four-year overlapping terms. City Council members are limited to two consecutive 4-year terms. There are three elected department heads - the City Attorney, City Clerk and City Treasurer. The position of Mayor is filled on a rotating basis.
