DESCRIPTION THE AGENCY: The Alameda County Social Services Agency (SSA) is comprised of over 2,300 employees working collectively and in partnership with community-based organizations, neighborhood groups and policy makers to serve the needs of the community. SSA is comprised of four operating departments: Agency Administration & Finance; Adult & Aging Services; Children & Family Services; and Workforce & Benefits Administration. THE POSITION: Under general direction, to plan, organize and direct a nutrition program in the Health Care and the Social Services Agencies; to consult with Agency and program personnel; to provide supervision and technical assistance to Nutritionists and unit staff, and to do related work as required.
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES
Senior Nutritionists assist in program planning, review and evaluation functions of the nutritional aspects of the program to which assigned, and are responsible for developing, updating, teaching and supervising nutrition program staff.
The Senior Nutritionist is distinguished from the lower level class of Nutritionist II in that the former has a more extensive range of responsibility for planning, monitoring, and evaluating the nutrition components of health programs. The Senior Nutritionist is also responsible for providing technical guidance and supervision to other Nutritionists and unit staff.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSEither I
The equivalent of two years full-time experience as a Nutritionist II in the Alameda County classified service.
Or II
Experience:
The equivalent of four years full-time professional experience in public health nutrition or dietetics, one year of which must have included program planning and evaluation. Supervisory experience is highly desirable.
Substitution:
Possession of a Master’s degree in Nutrition, Public Health Nutrition, Dietetics, or a closely related field from an accredited college or university may be substituted for one year of the required experience.
Licenses and Certificates:
Possession of a valid California Motor Vehicle Operator's license.
Possession of a current Registered Dietician (RD) certification or Registered Dietician Nutritionist (RDN) certification and good standing with the Commission on Dietetic Registration.
NOTE: The Civil Service Commission may modify the above Minimum Qualifications in the announcement of an examination.
