Student Services Professional III
RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:
Provides resources, support, and services for students who are foster youth, displaced, or homeless, have experienced adoption, kinship/guardianship care, and/or who have been identified as part of the DGS program or the DGS residential cohort (themed community). Plans, coordinates, and implements programs, services, and activities necessary for DGS program students to achieve academic, career, and personal success; develops program plans; performs complex data analyses to evaluate the effectiveness of current programs; and makes recommendations on program enhancements and service areas. Monitors enrollment, student success markers, academic standing, and leverages campus-wide resources to encourage the development of support strategies as they pertain to DGS program students. Performs outreach and in reach to students targeted by program.
Determines program eligibility for new and continuing students according to CSUCI and DGS program guidelines and monitors continuing students for adherence to program requirements. Assists DGS program students in overcoming obstacles to personal and academic success through access to academic and support services; and advocates for student needs with other campus programs and departments and refers students to counselors and community resources. Participates in communication among departments to coordinate responses to students in crisis or requiring personal or academic intervention. Responsible for maintaining accurate files and data for all DGS program participants and providing status reports each semester and as needed.
Organizes and implements outreach and matriculation programs, orientation activities, workshops, cultural experiences, and academic support/tutoring programs. May oversee a center or communal space for program participants. Collaborates with the Basic Needs Coordinator to establish events and activities that support the Basic Needs Program such as Hunger & Homelessness Awareness Week, CalFresh Outreach Days, Swipe Out Hunger, and more. Celebrates the success of DGS program students by hosting a year-end graduation/reception. Responsible for developing and presenting to the campus community on available resources and strategies for foster youth and homeless youth academic success and retention in collaboration with the Basic Needs Coordinator. Conducts community outreach and education, data collection, assessment, and other relevant special projects. Provides direct oversight and management of marketing, hiring, and training of student staff and volunteers and donation coordination. related the CSUCI Dolphin Guardian Scholars Academic Success Program (did not previously exist) that includes creating an excel spreadsheet of the list of students who are currently on academic notice or are at-risk. Created a document to monitor student progress and implement an academic plan.
Meets with students on a bi-weekly basis to check progress and or support that needs to be in place, initiates a request to access current student grades (Canvas) and to CARR (pending) to successfully monitor and create an academic success plan for DGS by setting goals, interventions, and determine support needed.
Represents Basic Needs, Division of Student Affairs, and CSUCI on a variety of internal and external committees; develops partnerships with community agencies, business, industry, and local government; and liaisons with local high schools, other colleges, and academic institutions. Assists with program marketing including preparation and production of promotional materials, invitations, and publications. Assists with maintaining the department or program website and social media accounts. Participates in developing and monitoring the program budget; researches, identifies, and assists with the solicitation of grants, donations, and other sources of funding; and maintains and purchases inventory and supplies for DGS program students. Assists Director of Basic Needs with maintaining compliance with grants and/or contracts with community partners as it relates to DGS program and the Basic Needs Program as a whole. Coordinates special projects and initiatives as directed. Develops and implements an assessment plan in conjunction with Basic Needs staff. Assists in the preparation of departmental, division, and university reports. May serve on the Campus Access, Retention & Equity (CARE) Team and/ or Basic Needs Task Force. May provide support to the Dolphin Pantry and/or CARE on an as needed basis. Coordinates and supports special projects as a member of Student Wellness and the Division of Student Affairs. Performs additional related duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS OF POSITION:
Education: Bachelor's degree in education, counseling, psychology, social work, or related field required; master's degree preferred.
Experience: At least three years of professional experience in a job-related field with two years of experience working with foster youth and/or homeless youth in case management required. A master's degree may be substituted for one year of professional experience.
Other Knowledge/Skills:
Solid knowledge of undergraduate and graduate student development theories to explain college student behavior. Knowledge of CalFresh and other social service benefits preferred. Experience executing events and activities. Ability to work successfully in a diverse environment and motivate others is essential. Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills, as well as effective presentation skills. Effective interpersonal and communication skills as demonstrated by a pronounced sensitivity to the needs of a diverse student body; demonstrated experience working with diverse student, faculty, staff and community populations, and proven ability to create an inclusive and welcoming environment. Must be able to demonstrate respect and integrate cultural sensitivity when providing Dolphin Guardian Scholars program services. Must be able to manage multiple projects at the same time. Excellent organization abilities and critical thinking skills are necessary. Proven ability to create strong interpersonal relationships, network, and forge community ties is essential.
Must be available to work 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.; however, flexibility with respect to work schedule is necessary as this position will require the occasional evening or weekend service with advance notice, as required. Punctuality and regular attendance is mandatory. Occasional travel will also be required, with advance notice, as required.
A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate can be offered a position with the CSU. Hiring Salary: $5,276 - $5,540 per month
