    The City of Olathe is seeking a highly experienced and detail oriented Civil Engineer Project Manager to oversee the design, technical documentation, utility relocations, construction contracts, and reporting for various municipal infrastructure projects. You will serve as a key leader in managing and overseeing public infrastructure projects, guiding them from conception through implementation/construction. In this senior-level role, you will utilize your strong technical expertise and leadership skills to plan, coordinate, and execute civil engineering projects that improve the community’s public infrastructure, including transportation, water systems, and capital improvements. You will be responsible for ensuring projects meet all technical, regulatory, and budgetary requirements, while collaborating with various stakeholders. The ideal candidate will ensure compliance with city technical specifications, design guidelines, and applicable codes and ordinances, while also exercising sound professional judgement in line with civil engineering principles.

    You will be part of a dynamic team, working on vital infrastructure projects that support the city's long-term goals.

    Salary Range: $95,690 - $135,508 depending on qualifications

    The Senior Project Manager (CE IV) acts as the project manager for design and construction of projects. Project scopes include transportation, street preservation, street reconstruction, bridges, water, wastewater, and stormwater systems.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Serves as the Project Manager for assigned projects, directing all project activities; negotiates with consultants on project scope and fee, managing the project funding, schedule, quality assurance and construction management.
    • Reviews consultant-produced engineers plans, technical documents, and reports for new or re-construction involving roadways, geometric improvements, traffic signals, streetlights, water, sanitary, and storm systems, traffic control and construction phasing for conformance with City of Olathe technical specifications, design criteria and applicable codes and ordinances.
    • Communicates consistently with project stakeholders both internally and externally.
    • Assists in the preparation of the City's Capital Improvement Plan (CIP) on an annual basis.
    • Prepares and/or provides review of interlocal agreements, consultant contracts, and other related agreements and contracts required in the process of completing assigned projects. Coordinates the preparation and execution of these documents with adjoining cities, Johnson County, Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT), Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE), Kansas Water Office (KWO)and other agencies.
    • Participates in a variety of special engineering studies to determine impact of various projects; prepares hydraulic calculations or performs modeling for water distribution and sewer collection systems.


    Qualifications

    Experience: Nine or more years of engineering and project management experience is required. Experience working in a municipality or Public Works Department is preferred.

    Education: A bachelor's degree with major coursework in civil engineering or a related field is required. Cumulative years of specialized knowledge and experience may be substituted for education

    Licenses & Certifications: Professional Engineers license in the State of Kansas preferred; or ability to obtain a PE within six months of employment is required. A valid driver's license and favorable driving record are also required.

    Environmental or Physical Demands: Requires working in a variety of locations and conditions, commonly splitting time between an office setting and construction sites.
