    THE POSITION:
    The Animal Care Supervisor & Veterinary Technician plans, coordinates, supervises, and participates in daily operations and activities of the animal shelter, to include supervising assigned staff and maintaining, cleaning and providing care for animals in the shelter.

    The eligible list created as a result of this recruitment will be used to fill full-time and part-time regular, limited-term or extra-help positions as vacancies occur or the need arises.

    EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

    Three (3) years of progressively responsible work experience in animal care/handling, animal shelter operations, and/or veterinary office operations, to include one (1) year of work in a lead or supervisory role. AND

    College level course work or vocational training in veterinary medicine and animal handling.

    Special Requirements:
    • Possession of valid Registered Veterinarian Technician’s license is required.
    • Possession of valid Euthanasia Certification is required. (Applicants who possess a Registered Veterinarian Technician license meet this requirement.)
    • Must receive pre-exposure rabies vaccination within three months of appointment.
    SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION:
    • Incumbents are required to work holidays and rotational weekends.
    • The Sheriff's Department will conduct a thorough background check and a reference check on candidates prior to appointment to a position within this class. As part of the background investigation, candidates will be required to submit a completed Personal History Statement (PHS).     DOCUMENT SUBMITTAL REQUIREMENTS:
    Possession of a valid Registered Veterinarian Technician's license is required for this position. All candidates must submit a copy of their certificate by the application review date. Candidates who fail to submit their documents by the application review date may be disqualified from the recruitment.

    VETERAN’S PREFERENCE POINTS:
    To be eligible, applicant must have served at least 181 consecutive days of active duty in the Armed Forces of the United States and have received either an honorable discharge or a general discharge under honorable conditions. A COPY OF THE DD 214, SHOWING DISCHARGE TYPE (GENERALLY COPY 4), MUST BE RECEIVED IN THE HUMAN RESOURCES DEPARTMENT BY THE FINAL FILING DATE (or APPLICATION REVIEW DEADLINE).
