    ABOUT LOS ANGELES COUNTY DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH SERVICES

    The Los Angeles County Department of Health Services (DHS) is the second largest municipal health system in the nation. DHS operates as an integrated health system, operating 25 health centers and four acute care hospitals, in addition to providing health care to youth in the juvenile justice system and inmates in the LA County jails. Across the network of DHS' directly operated clinical sites and through partnerships with community-based clinics, DHS cares for about 800,000 unique patients each year, employs over 23,000 staff, and has an annual operating budget of 6.9 billion.

    Through academic affiliations with the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), the University of Southern California (USC), and the Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Sciences (CDU), DHS hospitals are training sites for physicians completing their Graduate Medical Education in nearly every medical specialty and subspecialty. In addition, to its direct clinical services, DHS also runs the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Agency and the County's 911 emergency response system, as well as Housing for Health and the Office of Diversion and Re-entry, each with a critical role in connecting vulnerable populations, including those released from correctional and institutional settings, to supportive housing.

    DEFINITION

    Performs specialized diagnostic nuclear imaging studies using a dual-mode scanner to produce high-quality three-dimensional images of the body.

    Essential Job Functions

    • Performs hybrid imaging procedures, obtains, patient history, and monitors patient during procedure.
    • Observes patient during procedure and reports any unusual occurrences to appropriate personnel.
    • Reviews all images and evaluates them for technical quality.
    • Performs all required quality control procedures on equipment in accordance with departmental procedures and manufacturer's specifications. On a continuous basis, ensures equipment is functioning properly and advises supervisor of problems.
    • Transfers, positions, and instructs patients in preparation for procedures.
    • Calculates, dispenses, and administers isotopes dosage following established departmental procedures and appropriate safety measures.
    • Performs and documents wipe test and radiation monitoring to adhere to As Low as Reasonably Achievable standards.
    • Performs assigned quality assurance and institutional regulatory procedures.
    • Prepares radiopharmaceuticals according to manufacturer's standards.
    • Performs single-mode nuclear medicine studies, as necessary.
    • Injects contrast for certain hybrid imaging procedures.
    • Performs research under the supervision of a nuclear medicine physician or a radiologist with nuclear medicine certification.


    Requirements

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

    Option I - PET-CT or SPECT-CT hybrid imaging
    One year of experience performing nuclear medicine procedures under the direction of a qualified physician in a clinical nuclear medicine facility -AND- One year of experience as a Certified Radiologic Technologist (CRT) performing computed tomography procedures.

    Option II - PET-MRI hybrid imaging
    One year of experience performing nuclear medicine procedures under the direction of a qualified physician in a clinical nuclear medicine facility -AND- One year of post registration experience as a magnetic resonance imaging technologist.

    LICENSE:
    PET-CT or SPECT-CT hybrid imaging
    Current State of California Certified Technologist Nuclear Medicine (CTNM) license -AND- current Computed Tomography (CT) certificate issued by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) or current CRT license issued by the State of California.

    PET-MRI hybrid imaging
    Current State of California Certified Technologist Nuclear Medicine (CTNM) license -AND- current CRT license issued by the State of California.

    DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS : Additional points will be awarded for additional experience in excess of the Selection Requirements.
    PHYSICAL CLASS III - MODERATE: Includes standing or walking most of the time, with bending, stooping, squatting, twisting, and reaching; includes working on irregular surfaces, occasionally lifting objects weighting over 25 pounds, and frequent lifting of 10-25 pounds.

The original license, certificate, and/or permit must be presented during the selection process and prior to appointment.

    All required licenses and certifications must be active and unrestricted or your application will not be accepted.

    Additional Information

    EXAMINATION CONTENT :
    This examination will consist of an evaluation of training and experience based upon application information, desirable qualifications, and supplemental questionnaire, weighted 100%.

    Candidates must achieve a passing score of 70% or higher on the exam in order to be placed on the eligible register.

    ELIGIBILITY INFORMATION
    :
    Applications will be processed on an "as received" basis and those receiving a passing score will be promulgated to the eligible register accordingly.


    The names of candidates receiving a passing grade on the examination will be added to the Eligible Register in the order of their score group for a period of twelve (12) months following the date of promulgation.
