    Essential Job Functions

    A Power Equipment Technician Supervisor is responsible for performing a combination of the following essential job function:

    • Plans, assigns, supervises, inspects and evaluates the work of power equipment technicians and sub-journey level staff in repairing gasoline, diesel, alternative fuel and hybrid engines, clutches, transmissions, brakes, front and rear axles, fuel, cooling and electrical systems and other components of passenger cars, trucks and construction equipment and a variety of non-automotive power equipment.
    • Plans and establishes work schedules, assignments, and production sequences to meet production goals.
    • Determines need and extent of repairs and authorizes replacement of parts.
    • Provides weekly work orders status updates to maintain efficient delivery of services and optimizes the use of technology for the most innovative and effective delivery of services to our customers.
    • Processes quotes and requisition to orders materials, tools and parts.
    • Checks work in progress and upon completion for technical adequacy and compliance with equipment specifications.
    • Instructs subordinates in up-to-date repair methods and provides technical information on repair of new equipment.
    • Supervises the maintenance of tools and equipment.
    • Serves as a shop expediter by supervising initial and final inspections and coordinating flow of work and may supervise a traveling field mechanic responsible for work at various locations throughout the County, as needed.
    • Researches the disposition and status of maintenance and repair of equipment by accessing and utilizing County automated fleet management information system.
    • Maintains and generates repair work to comply with departmental and County reporting guidelines.
    • Records repairs made, time spent, and parts used on County automated fleet management information system.
    • Enforces safety and sanitation in accordance with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations.


    Requirements

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
    Seven years of experience in automotive equipment repair work, three years of which must have been at the journey level. *

    LICENSE:
    A valid California Class C Driver License is required to perform job-related essential functions. A valid California A Driver License may be required to perform job-related duties.**

    PHYSICAL CLASS:
    3 - Moderate : This class requires that the incumbent stand or walk most of the time with bending, stooping, squatting, twisting, and reaching, working on irregular surfaces, occasionally lifting of objects weighting over 25 pounds, and frequent lifting of 10-25 pounds.

    Special Requirements Information:

    *Journey-level is defined as, under general direction, diagnosing problems and performing a full range of automotive equipment maintenance and repairs.

    **License Information: Successful applicants for positions that require driving must obtain and present a copy of his/her driving record from the California State Department of Motor Vehicles before final appointment. Applicants should not present a copy of their driving history until asked to do so by the hiring department. The County will make an individualized assessment of whether an applicant's driving history has a direct or adverse relationship with the specific duties of the job. License must not be currently suspended, restricted, or revoked.

    Examination content:
    This examination will consist of a structured virtual interview covering training and experience, weighted 100%.

    A passing score of 70% or higher is required to be placed on the eligible list.

    ELIGIBILITY INFORMATION:
    The names of candidates receiving a passing score in the examination will be placed on the eligible list in the order of their score group for a period of twelve (12) months following the date of promulgation.
