    Pay Range: $19.74hr. - $24.67/hr.

    Workdays & Hours: This is a full-time position working at least 40 hours per week with benefits; possible 4-day, 10-hour standard schedules include: Monday-Thursday (6:15am to 4:45pm) or Tuesday-Friday (6:15am - 4:45pm). On occasion, schedules may include holidays, inclement weather days, and weekends. Saturday and/or Sunday schedules may be included based on demand and special needs.

    An Equipment Operator job is available with The City of Fort Worth Environmental Services Department/Solid Waste Illegal Dump Division. This position will be responsible for the litter control operations to include illegal dumping, litter abatement and related efforts. The Environmental Department operates critical programs that continually serves to managing environmental quality, garbage, recycling and waste reduction services for the residents of Fort Worth. This position is intended to directly support in illegal dumping and litter abatement goals within the City of Fort Worth. This contributes to the City’s vision of the “most livable and best managed city in the country”.

    Minimum Qualifications:
    • High School diploma / GED.
    • One (1) year of experience in operation of motorized equipment.
    • Valid Driver’s License.
    • Must pass Drug Screen and Physical.

    Preferred Qualifications:
    • Possession of an appropriate CDL Class “A” or “B”
    • Preference may be given to experience and certifications as related to the vacancy. Basic computer skills, i.e., data entry, email, ability to create and close work orders preferred.
    • Two (2) years of experience in operation of motorized equipment.

    The Equipment Operator job responsibilities include:
    • Maintains and operate various types of motorized equipment in performance of assigned job duties including the more complex and heavier equipment, such as street sweeper, roto boom, caterpillar, skid steer/bobcat.
    • Rotate between street sweeping and traditional illegal dumping abatement work in the safest manner possible to ensure the safety of crew members and the general public; to participate in the training and monitoring of lower-level workers; to perform the more complex work tasks related to job completion. Operate street sweeper and roto-boom trucks on assigned work orders; and to lift and carry heavy loads of waste.
    • Remove all illegal dumped debris and litter from city properties to prevent any nuisance and hazard to the environment.
    • Haul trash debris to the landfill for proper disposal.
    • Verify locations of waste and enter information in computer, maintain records as required by state regulatory agencies.
    • Performs preventative maintenance on equipment as assigned and inspects equipment before use.
    • Maintains records of equipment used and operations performed; assists in preparation and delivery of needed materials and equipment.
    • Adheres to assigned work schedule as outlined in the Department and City attendance policies and procedures; ensures all behaviors comply with the City’s Personnel Rules and Regulations.
    • Performs other duties as required.

    Working Conditions

    Depending on assignment, positions in this class typically require touching, talking, hearing, seeing, grasping, standing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, walking, repetitive motions, climbing, balancing, pushing, pulling and lifting; depending on assignment. Incumbents may be exposed to moving mechanical parts, odors, dusts, poor ventilation, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, intense noises, gases, vibrations, chemicals, oils and workspace restrictions.

    Physical Demand

    Heavy Work - Depending on assignment, positions in this class typically exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly having to move objects.

    Medical Program
