    Overview

    Are you ready to take on some of the most challenging and impactful cases in the legal field?

    We need a dedicated and experienced prosecutor to handle major cases involving fentanyl distribution, gang violence, and organized criminal enterprises. In this role, you will be critical in leading investigations and prosecutions, collaborating closely with law enforcement and other agencies to address key issues in the district.

    Our primary office is located in Fort Collins, and our second office is in Loveland. Both are set in a picturesque region featuring the Cache La Poudre and Big Thompson rivers, Horsetooth Reservoir, and Rocky Mountain National Park.     Responsibilities

    It is REQUIRED that candidates upload a cover letter addressed to Brian Hardouin , Chief Deputy District Attorney.

    Specifically, this position:
    • Is assigned to the Major and Complex Case workload, handling major drug cases, firearms offenses, gang violence, and organized criminal enterprises prosecuted under the Colorado Organized Crime and Conspiracy Act (COCCA).
    • Involves membership in the Threat Assessment Group (TAG), contributing to efforts to identify and mitigate targeted violence.
    • Requires collaboration with the Northern Colorado Drug Task Force (NCDTF), advising detectives, reviewing warrants, and prosecuting cases that often involve complex evidence, including wiretaps, large volumes of discovery, and multiple defendants.
    • Focuses on fentanyl-related cases, addressing the increasing prevalence of this powerful synthetic opioid in drug overdose deaths both locally and nationally.
    • Entails oversight of serious cases involving guns, violence, and organized crime, requiring meticulous case management and collaboration with law enforcement to disrupt criminal networks and reduce violent crime.
    • Demands a high level of expertise, with the expectation that the attorney will become a subject matter expert and potentially provide training to law enforcement or other offices on complex prosecutions.

    We are looking for a candidate that will:
    • Have prior experience handling felony-level drug-related and other complex felonies.
    • Be capable of rotation to handle district court cases and move between Juvenile, District Court, and Special Victims Unit (SVU) units.
    • Bring multiple years of prosecution experience, making them well-suited for the demands of the position.
    • Function at an advanced skill level, exercising significant independent discretion and judgment.


    Qualifications

    All candidates will be screened for the following required minimum qualifications. Any candidate who does not meet all of the qualifications listed as required will be eliminated from the process.
    • Deputy District Attorney III positions are generally filled by the advancement of a Deputy District Attorney II or similarly qualified candidate.
    • Equivalent to a Juris Doctorate degree from an accredited law school required.
    • Current license to practice law in Colorado, or obtain it within two (2) months of hire required.

    Supplemental Information

    The expected starting salary, with experience taken into consideration, is $103,000- $118,000. The full pay range for this position is $95,852 - $134,193.

    The typical schedule is Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with work-from-home options available after a probationary period. Some evening hours will be required.

    An offer of employment is contingent upon the successful completion of required pre-employment testing. Depending on the position, these checks may include, but are not limited to, reference checks, motor vehicle reports, employment verification, education verification, fingerprinting, criminal history information, physical, and a drug screening. As marijuana is an illegal substance under federal law, testing positive for marijuana (medical or otherwise) or any other substance for which the county tests will result in the contingent offer of employment being revoked. Successful completion of the drug screen is defined as obtaining a negative result.
