* * *UP TO $3,000 SIGNING BONUS * * *Interviews will be held on December 6, 2024The Nevada County Transit division is looking for a safety conscious individual who is excited to provide vital transportation services to our county residents! We are looking for drivers with a positive outlook and the following knowledge and skills. This position is a phenomenal opportunity for a candidate seeking a half-time position at 20 hours per week, which includes pro-rated benefits.
Knowledge of:- Safe, defensive driving practices
- California Motor Vehicle Code applicable to the operation of vehicles in public transportation
- Basic maintenance of transit vehicles and related equipment
- California Commercial Driver Handbook
Skill in:- Operating a transit vehicle safely
- Maintaining order among passengers on a bus
- Good customer service skills
- Understanding and implementing verbal and written instructions
- Proper use of two-way radio system
- Establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with those in the course of work
Education and Experience RequiredCompletion of twelfth grade or receipt of G.E.D. and a minimum of six months of driving experience in one or more of the following: public transit, a school district transit operation, or driving a commercial vehicle. Passenger transit driving experience preferred.
Licenses and CertificatesAll required licenses and certificates must be issued by the State of California and kept current and valid for the duration of employment
- Class A or B Vehicle Operator’s License
- Department of Motor Vehicles Medical Certificate/DL-51
- A Vehicle Transit Training (VTT) Certificate indicating completion of required training administered either by a certified "Vehicle Train the Trainer" instructor or a Certified Instructor of the appropriate transit classification from the California Department of Education, Office of School Transportation is required within three months of hire
- A Passenger Endorsement Certificate permitting the licensee to operate public transit vehicles equipped with a Gross Vehicle Weight Rating of 26,000 pounds or more.
Possession of a Certification for Operation of a School Bus and Operation of Airbrakes are highly desirable and beneficial, but not required.

RetirementThe County is a member of the CalPERS retirement system and provides the opportunity for voluntary contributions to a 457 deferred compensation account through Nationwide by way of pre-tax and Roth payroll deductions.
