    Job Summary:

    Under the general direction of the Career Center Director, the Employer Relations Specialist will proactively and strategically identify, build, cultivate, and maintain professional relationships with local, regional, national, and international employers for recruitment of university students and alumni.

    Duties / Responsibilities
    • Maintain cooperative working relationships with the Career Center Internship team, campus, and employing communities.
    • Utilize advanced human relations skills to create and define employer partnership opportunities.
    • Research industry hiring trends and area companies to identify employer collaboration opportunities and identify the best qualified candidates to match with the employer work needs.
    • Collaborate to set the vision and goals for Career Center employer development and relationship-building initiatives.
    • In coordination with Career Center staff, plan creative activities to meet program needs and implement to maintain ongoing relationships with key employers and organizations.
    • Consult with employing organizations, including but not limited to major corporations, global organizations, and small businesses, to establish effective college recruitment and connection strategies and achieve a productive presence on campus.

    • Utilize working knowledge of the policies, procedures, and practices to troubleshoot and resolve compliance issues.
    • Research the employment market to identify new niches and opportunities for a diverse student population. Use this information to assist student in career path that align with their aptitude and abilities related to their particular needs and circumstances.
    • Coordinate activities with Career Center staff to establish employment opportunities for students and alumni and ensure the availability of employment and internship opportunities in Handshake and other services.
    • Assist student in pursuing their educational and career goals by providing timely and relevant employment market and salary information.
    • Provide complex student services support to various Career Center efforts using a high degree of judgment.
    • Organize programs and events, such as employer advisory group activities, to nurture relationships with diverse groups of employers, promote university programs/students, and gather relevant employment market insights and trends.
    • Represent Career Center and the university at professional and community events-promoting services to employers and supporting University Advancement efforts.
    • Deliver presentations to targeted community and professional groups to negotiate recruitment, employment leads, and resource development efforts.
    • Provide guidance to the Career Center's resource and advancement efforts.
    • Provide lead work direction for Career Fairs and employer-related events, coordinating efforts to secure employer participation from various employment sectors, including business, industry, non-profit, educational, and government entities.
    • Independently provide comprehensive advisement to students who have problems in choosing, pursuing and adjusting themselves to suitable educational and vocational goals.
    • Provide comprehensive advisement to students, through drop-in advising and 1:1 advising, who have problems choosing, pursuing, and adjusting to suitable educational and vocational goals.
    • Identify professionals who create and present job search-related workshops and programs for candidates interested in career and internship positions.
    • Coordinate assessment of Employer Relations and implement performance measures after events and annually to adopt effective courses of action.
    • Participate in routine Career Center and University-wide meetings, including but not limited to staff meetings, retreats, problem-solving meetings, team projects, and departmental collaborations.
    • Assess student learning and Career Center services by tracking client data (program attendance, appointment participation, demographics, class level, retention, etc.) and produce relevant, detailed reports for the Assistant Director and/or Director as requested.
    • Serve as the Career Center representative, advocating the needs of individual students, to various campus committees, task forces, and projects.
    • Plan, create, and build data-tracking processes between employers, the Career Center, and the student body to meet program needs.
    • Evaluate data and provide recommendations to meet programmatic needs.
    • Use the Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system for all employer-related communications and engagements.
    • Provide guidance, and quality delivery of various employment connections and recruitment services.
    • Maintain and evaluate the performance of Handshake, the job posting platform used by students and employers.
    • Assist in creating promotional and marketing collateral, newsletters, and website content related to employment for distribution and training internally (faculty, staff, and students) and externally (employers).
    • Attend and participate in Division of Student Affairs (DSA) functions as required (e.g., all DSA staff meetings).
    • Attend trainings or professional development opportunities in accordance with job functions, in consultation with the Associate Vice President for Student Success, Equity, and Engagement (AVPSSEE).
    • Participate in professional trainings as needed, based on job functions.
    • Attend administrative staff meetings.
    • Perform other classification related duties as assigned.

    Minimum Qualifications: Required Education and Experience
    • Education: Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in a related field, including or supplemented by upper division or graduate course work in counseling techniques, interviewing, and conflict resolution where such are job-related.
    • Experience: Possession of these knowledge and abilities is typically demonstrated through the equivalent of three years of progressively responsible professional student services work experience. One year in the program area (Employer Relations/ Career Center) to which assigned may be preferred but is not required.
    • A master’s degree in Counseling, Clinical Psychology, Social Work, or a directly related field may be substituted for one year of experience. A doctorate degree and the appropriate internship or clinical training in counseling or guidance may be substituted for the three years of experience for positions with a major responsibility for professional career or personal counseling

    Required Qualifications
    • Thorough knowledge of the principles of individual and group behavior. General knowledge of the principles, practices and trends of the Student Services field as well as general knowledge of the policies, procedures and practices of the program area to which assigned; general knowledge of individual counseling techniques; general knowledge, or the ability to rapidly acquire such knowledge, of the organizational procedures and activities of the specific campus to which the position is assigned. Working knowledge of student services programs outside the program to which immediately assigned.
    • Ability to analyze complex situations accurately and adopt effective courses of action; advise students individually and in groups on complex student related matters; determine appropriate courses of action and proper techniques to utilize while engaged with individuals in personal interactions of an argumentative or sensitive nature; interpret and evaluate descriptions and explanations of problems brought forward by individuals or student organizations, analyze and define the problem, draw valid conclusions and project consequences of various alternative courses of action; carry out a variety of professionally complex assignments without detailed instructions; and establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with a variety of individuals.

    Compensation and Benefits:

    Anticipated Hiring Range: $5,276 - $5,460 per month

    Classification Salary Range: $5,276 - $7,517 per month

    The salary offered will take into account internal equity and experience among other factors.

    The CSU system provides a comprehensive benefit package that includes medical, dental and vision plans, membership in the California Public Employees Retirement System (CalPERS), sick and vacation time, and 15 paid holidays a year.     Position Information:

    Work status: Full-time/Exempt/Probationary

    Academic year schedule: Monday through Friday (8:00 am - 5:00 pm), some evenings/weekends.

    Summer schedule: Monday through Thursday (7:00 am - 5:30 pm), some evenings/weekends.

    Background Check

    Satisfactory completion of a background check (including a criminal records check) is required for employment. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.

    Drivers License Check

    Possession of a valid Driver's License is required. Employees in this position will be enrolled in the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) Government Employer Pull Notice Program which confirms possession of a valid driver's license and reflects driving record.

    Mandated Reporter

    The person holding this position is considered a `mandated reporter' under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment.
