    For employees belonging to the Inglewood Management Employee Organization (IMEO), a 5% salary increase will take effect on January 1, 2025 .

    POSITION

    Under the direction of the Recreation Superintendent, responsible for the development, administration, and management of the city’s Early Learners Play to Learn Preschool Programs, kiddie camps, recreational classes, and programming for toddlers.

    This list of tasks is ILLUSTRATIVE ONLY and is not a comprehensive listing of all functions and tasks performed by positions in this class. Incumbents in this class may not be required to perform all duties listed and may be required to perform additional, position-specific duties.

    TASKS
    • Provides direct supervision of the Early Learners Play to Learn Program by effectively managing the respective Centers and related facilities, personnel, payroll, purchasing, equipment, and supplies
    • Supervises overall program operation, including but not limited to scheduling, registration, collection, processing of fees, and documentation for the Early Learners Play to Learn Programs, classes, and activities;
    • Plans, develops, and supervises developmentally appropriate curriculum and enrichment programming for toddlers and youth ages 1 to 5;
    • Maintain compliance with all state and local licensing requirements;
    • Foster a supportive, inclusive, and engaging environment for children, families, and staff;
    • Monitors facilities and grounds for cleanliness and safety and reports items to be repaired or replaced;
    • Ensures adherence to department policies and procedures by staff and patrons, ensuring the safety of the community;
    • Prepares and presents a variety of written documents and oral reports to the Park and Recreation Commission and other groups or city departments;
    • Participates in the development and administration of the annual budget, including estimating revenue and expenditure projections, developing and managing program budgets, and evaluating program costs;
    • Supervises, trains, schedules, assigns, reviews, and evaluates assigned full and part-time staff, contract employees, and volunteers; initiates corrective and disciplinary action.


    QUALIFICATIONS

    Bachelor’s degree in Child Development with 12 core semester units in early childhood education/development, 3 semester units in Administration or Staff Relations, AND 4 years of teaching experience with children under age 5 years

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND OTHER CHARACTERISTICS
    • Knowledgeable of early childhood education, and recreation program planning, implementation, and execution for toddlers and youth;
    • Skilled in preparing complete, complex, comprehensive, and accurate reports; assessing and prioritizing multiple tasks, projects, and demands, working with conflicting deadlines to complete projects, developing and implementing recreation programs, supervising and leading staff, and delegating tasks and authority;
    • Ability to problem-solve unconventional and common issues with minimum supervision or direction, to promote and enforce safe work practices; effectively communicate verbally and in writing with all levels of staff and the public, forecast the needs of the operations to implement and maintain effective programming; maintain a calm, professional demeanor in the face of challenges and exercise good judgment in fulfilling day-to-day responsibilities;
    • Proficient in operating a personal computer utilizing standard and specialized software, including Active-Net, Eden, and other software or electronic devices to complete essential job functions.


    WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

    Work is performed in indoor and outdoor environments.

    THE SELECTION PROCESS

    Applicants whose experience best meets the city's needs will be invited to participate in the examination for this position. Candidates must have access to a computer with internet, video, and audio capabilities to participate in our examination process. The examination may consist of one or more of the following: (1) Training & Experience Evaluation, (2) Writing Exercise, and (3) Qualifications Appraisal Interview with a panel of subject matter experts. Candidates must receive a score of 70 or higher to have their names placed on the active eligibility list for one year. The top three ranks on the Eligibility List will have their application materials forwarded to the hiring authority for a selection interview.
