    TPWD MISSION

    To manage and conserve the natural and cultural resources of Texas and to provide hunting, fishing and outdoor recreation opportunities for the use and enjoyment of present and future generations.

    GENERAL DESCRIPTION :

    Under the direction of the Assistant Superintendent and Lead Ranger, the Maintenance Specialist position performs complex (journey-level) building maintenance and construction work and is responsible for the daily operation and maintenance of park facilities, grounds and equipment for Cedar Hill State Park. Serves as the Back-up Utility Plant Operator (UPO) and assists in the operation, maintenance and repairs to the Water Distribution System and Wastewater Systems. Responsible for regulatory compliance in all utility operations and completion of required reports and laboratory testing as required by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) and the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department. Operates all types of equipment such as trucks, tractors, mowers and power tools. Provides quality visitor services by, providing information and quality customer service to visitors. Assists in enforcing park rules and regulations, performs resource management tasks and interprets the park's natural resources. Works under general supervision, with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Performs additional duties as assigned. Complies with all Agency, Division and Branch rules, regulations and procedures.


    Qualifications:

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :

    Education :

    Graduation from High School or GED.

    Experience :

    Three years of facility, equipment or grounds maintenance experience.

    Licensure :

    Must possess or be able to obtain, within 30 days of employment, a valid state driver's license;

    Must possess or be able to obtain, within one year of employment, a class "D" Water and Wastewater license issued by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ).

    NOTE : Retention of position contingent upon obtaining and maintaining required licenses and compliance with the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality's (TCEQ) Criminal Conviction Guidelines.

    ACCEPTABLE SUBSTITUTIONS :

    Experience :

    Thirty semester hours from an accredited college or university may substitute for one year of the required experience, with a maximum substitution of two years.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS :

    Experience :

    Experience working with the public/customer service;

    Experience working with water or wastewater systems;

    Experience working with plumbing and electrical.

    Licensure :

    A current class "D" Water and Wastewater license issued by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ).

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES :

    Knowledge of building and facility repair techniques such as carpentry, plumbing, electrical or mechanical;

    Knowledge of building and facility maintenance and repair techniques;

    Knowledge of scheduled and routine maintenance programs;

    Knowledge of general custodial duties;

    Knowledge of TCEQ rules and regulations governing the proper operation and performance standards for Wastewater and Water Treatment Plants;

    Skill in using MS Word, Excel and Outlook;

    Skill in effective verbal and written communication;

    Skill in the use of hand and power tools, mowers, trimmers, tractors, boats, vehicles, welders, generators and other mechanical equipment;

    Skill in establishing and maintaining effective work relationships with co-workers and work-related contacts;

    Skill in providing quality customer service in a courteous and professional manner;

    Skill in selecting appropriate tools and equipment and in troubleshooting situations to determine appropriate actions to resolve problems;

    Ability to work independently with little or no supervision;

    Ability to work as a member of a team;

    Ability to operate and maintain utility systems in accordance with TCEQ rules and regulations;

    Ability to perform manual labor including, lifting supplies and materials up to 50 lbs.;

    Ability to conduct work activities in accordance with TPWD safety program.

    WORKING CONDITIONS :

    Required to work in a public park with overnight camping and day use;

    Required to work 40 hours per week, includes flexible schedules with hours other than 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and days off other than Saturdays, Sundays and holidays;

    Required to respond to emergencies and on-call situations;

    Required to perform work outdoors, occasionally in adverse weather conditions;

    Required to perform manual labor including, lifting supplies and materials up to 50 lbs.;

    May be required to operate a State vehicle;

    Required to travel 5% with possible overnight stays;

    Must conform to TPWD dress and grooming standards, work rules and safety procedures;

    Non-smoking environment in State buildings and vehicles.
