    The Position

    Engineering Technicians perform a broad range of duties involving technical engineering work in support of professional engineers including drafting, engineering calculations, surveying, materials and soils testing, construction inspection, roadway design, right-of-way engineering, planning, permitting and inspection, water rights appropriation and land acquisition in support of civil or related professional engineering work. Work requires the application of technical engineering skills, methods and practices in compiling technical data, drafting, computer aided software, operating specialized equipment and preparing engineering related documents.

    Under general supervision incumbents perform one or more of the duties described in the series concept at the journey level, perform technical engineering work by applying a variety of methods and practices in compiling technical data, using computer aided software, operating specialized equipment and preparing technical engineering documents.

    This position is located within the structures lab in Carson City Materials building. With minimal supervision, maintain daily workload in a timely manner. Perform the more complex tests that require high degree of proficiency, such as AASHTO re: source, ACI and CCRL reference testing for programs. Receive samples, review transmittals for material identification. Assign lab identification numbers and record along with material description into a record identification system. Calculate test results using principles and practices of engineering mathematics. Check results for specification compliance and report results. Use good judgment and logical reasoning in the performance of work assignments.     To Qualify:

    In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
    Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications) Associate's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in engineering, physics, math or closely related field and one year of experience in a specialized engineering function or program area which involved the application of work procedures, standards and controls; OR graduation from high school or equivalent education and two years of experience as described above; OR one year of experience as an Engineering Technician II in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above. Special Requirements This position requires a valid driver's license at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment. Additional Position Criteria This position requires applicants be at least 18 years of age upon hire. If selected, proof of being at least 18 years of age will be required.     The presence of Nevada's earliest inhabitants, beginning about 12,400 years ago, is marked by many petroglyphs and archaeological sites. Baskets, decoys, and ingenious traps are evidence of the resourcefulness of these early people in a harsh and arid environment.

    Today, Nevada is the nation's seventh largest state in land area. Several hundred mountain ranges cross its landscape, many with elevations over 10,000 feet. In contrast, the State's lowest point (along the Colorado River) is only 470 feet above sea level. From majestic mountains to desert valleys, nature has endowed Nevada with diverse and unique ecosystems.
