    Job Summary

    DEFINITION

    Maintains, repairs and cleans Transit facilities, including buildings, bus stops and equipment.

    SUPERVISION

    Works under the general supervision of the Transit Facilities Maintenance Supervisor and/or designee.

    Representative Duties

    Cleans, sweeps, pressure washes, and maintains bus shelters, bus benches, and other bus stop amenities; replaces and affixes signage.

    Performs and assists in preventative and maintenance duties around transit facilities, buildings, bus shelters and equipment, including minor electrical, plumbing, HVAC, pneumatics, hydraulics, and carpentry; trims shrubs and trees.

    Tracks and monitors facilities maintenance and repairs through applicable software applications; identifies and reports safety hazards; inventories supplies.

    Inspects industrial machinery and equipment and monitors computerized systems.

    Interprets and follows specifications, workorders, technical manuals, and schematic drawings.

    Performs custodial duties at facilities and bus layover zones, including cleaning, disinfecting, and replenishing supplies.

    Removes graffiti from bus stops and bus stops terminals.

    Posts work activity and route detour notices and sets up safety devices, as required.

    Uses a forklift to move heavy objects and transport supplies received on pallets.

    Follows applicable safety rules and regulations.

    Performs other duties as assigned.

    Requirements

    Knowledge of:

    Safe work practices and procedures

    Applicable federal, State, and local codes and safety regulations

    Basic cleaning methods and practices

    Use of hand and power tools and equipment

    Cleaning tools and techniques, including solutions used to remove graffiti

    Painting materials, tools, and equipment

    General construction practices

    Basic mathematics and common measures to calculate square footage, proportions, and volume.

    Principles and techniques of customer service

    Ability to:

    Safely and properly operate power and heavy tools and equipment

    Perform physical labor requiring endurance and flexibility

    Read and interpret work plans, blueprints, schematics, and operations and service manuals

    Perform simple mathematical calculations

    Take accurate measurements

    Perform tasks requiring manual dexterity

    Safely and properly apply various cleaning products, paints, oils, and stains

    Perform simple mechanical tasks

    Operate a forklift and manlift

    Follow oral and written instructions

    Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing

    Establish and maintain effective and cooperative working relationship with City employees and the general public

    Provide effective customer service

    REQUIREMENTS

    Minimum Qualifications:

    Education: Graduation from high school or the equivalent.

    Experience: Two years of paid work experience performing facility maintenance duties or custodial work.

    Licenses and Certificates:

    Possession of a valid Class C driver license. Possession of a California Class B driver license is desirable. Must obtain forklift operator certification within six months of date of hire.

    NOTE: If three or more qualified City employees apply and pass the examination, a promotional list will be established in addition to an open-competitive list. If fewer than three qualified City employees pass the examination, the appointing authority, in accordance with the City's civil service rules and regulations, can decline to use a promotional list, in which case a promotional list will not be established for this position.

    WORKING CONDITIONS

    Work is regularly performed both inside and outside in seasonal climate and variable weather conditions. Work is performed on ladders and scaffolding around equipment and machinery with moving parts and under wet and slippery conditions. Work requires regular use of various cleaning supplies and solutions, paints, oils, and staining products. Safety training and equipment are provided. Work requires exposure to moving objects, noise, vibrations, dust, dirt, odors, slippery surfaces, biohazards such as feces and oily conditions. Physical demands include moving, climbing, stopping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, standing, carrying, bending, reaching, and lifting. May be required to work evenings and/or weekends.
