    ABOUT THE POSITION

    The Real Property Management Department is seeking a qualified candidates to apply for the Tree Trimmer position. As a member of our team, you will be planting, trimming/pruning, bracing, provide maintenance and removal of trees and large shrubs within Clark County park facilities and other landscaped areas.

    This examination will establish an Open Competitive Eligibility list to fill current and/or future vacancies that may occur within the next six (6) months or may be extended as needed by Human Resources.

    Human Resources reserves the right to call only the most qualified applicants to the selection process.

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

    Education and Experience: Equivalent to graduation from high school AND two (2) years of full-time experience, which has involved pruning, trimming and caring for trees and large shrubs. Such work must have included working from aerial equipment and/or ladders at heights above 20 feet.

    All qualifying education and each experience must be clearly documented in the “Education” and “Work Experience” sections of the application.     Working Conditions: Work extended shifts or be called back in emergency situations. Work with exposure to potentially hazardous fertilizers and pesticides. Work out of doors in all weather conditions.

    Licensing and Certification: Must possess a valid Class A or Class B Nevada Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with any necessary endorsements. A Nevada Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is preferred.

    Some positions may require a crane operator's certification through the National Commission for the Certification of Crane Operator's (NCCCO) within twenty-four (24) months from the date of hire.

    Background Investigation: Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a background investigation. Periodically after employment background investigations may be conducted.

    Citizenship: Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Please note, Clark County does not provide H1B visa sponsorships or transfers for any employment positions.

    Medical Examination: Employment is contingent upon the results of a physical examination performed by our examining physician.

    Pre-Employment Drug Testing: Employment is contingent upon the results of a pre-employment drug examination and is subjects to random drug testing required by Department of Transportation.

    EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

    • Plants, trims, prunes, braces, maintains and removes park, street and other trees in County landscaped areas.
    • Operates equipment-requiring incumbent to possess a commercial driver's license.
    • Works from an aerial bucket, ladder or with lifelines, ropes and cables to trim, shape and top trees; clears overhead utility lines and removes branches from structures and other hazardous locations; shapes and thins trees for aesthetic reasons.
    • Rigs, lowers and stacks branches and cuttings; operates or directs the operation of brush chippers and stump cutters; leaves work site in a clean and orderly condition.
    • Prunes and directs the pruning of a variety of shrubs and other plant materials; disposes of or directs the disposal of debris. Instructs crew in work procedures; ensures that safety precautions are understood and followed.
    • Operates and performs adjustments and minor maintenance on a wide variety of hand and power tools related to the work, including power and hand saws, chippers, stump cutters, blowers and related equipment; reports the need for replacement or major repairs.
    • Drives a tree trimming truck and operates associated aerial equipment.
    • Starts trees from seedlings; waters and fertilizes as required; replants to larger containers and plants is designated locations as desired size is achieved.
    • Cables and braces trees and shrubs as required for safety or aesthetic considerations.
    • Answers questions from the public and responds to emergency situations involving downed trees or similar problems.
    • Observes safe driving and working conditions; wears appropriate safety equipment and observes safe work procedures.
    • Contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of the unit's service to its customers by offering suggestions and directing or participating as an active member of a work team.
    • Maintains accurate records of work performed.


    PHYSICAL DEMANDS

    Strength and mobility to work in a typical field maintenance setting, including operating hand and power tools; stamina to perform sustained physical labor, including standing, walking, climbing and working at heights of 20 feet and above; strength to lift and maneuver materials and equipment weighing up to 70 pounds with proper equipment; vision to read printed materials; and hearing and speech to communicate in person or over a radio or telephone.
