OverviewThe District Attorney’s Office for the 8th Judicial District is looking for a Deputy District Attorney and Investigator to take the lead on prosecuting motor vehicle theft cases and other major crimes involving stolen vehicles.
This role focuses specifically on auto theft crimes. You will work closely with law enforcement, victims, and other prosecutors to handle cases from start to finish. The ideal candidate should understand criminal law, especially property crimes, and be committed to keeping the community safe.
Although based in the 8th Judicial District, you will also collaborate with District Attorneys in the 13th, 14th, and 19th Judicial Districts, covering multiple counties in Colorado. Travel will be required as you manage cases through investigation, trial, and sentencing.
This is a grant-funded position through the Colorado District Attorney’s Council, and part of your work will include training law enforcement and other prosecutors on auto theft laws. You’ll also stay updated on any changes in the law that affect auto theft cases.
The hiring pay range is $95,852 - $134,193, with experience considered.

- Reviews felony case materials, analyzing evidence and witness statements to decide if prosecution is warranted.
- Conducts thorough legal research and develops recommendations to improve office policies and procedures.
- Oversees felony criminal proceedings, including scheduling, plea negotiations, motions, sentencings, and probation revocation hearings.
- Acts as lead prosecutor in both jury and bench trials.

- Rotate between the Juvenile, District Court, and Special Victims Unit (SVU).
- Bring extensive prosecution experience, particularly with felony-level matters.
- Exercise advanced legal skills and sound independent judgment in handling cases.
- Demonstrate significant experience in managing felony cases from investigation through trial.
QualificationsDepending on qualifications, this position could hire as Deputy District Attorney III or IV.
All candidates will be screened for the following required minimum qualifications. Any candidate who does not meet all of the qualifications listed as required for a Deputy District Attorney III will be eliminated from the process.
Deputy District Attorney III - Deputy District Attorney III positions are generally filled by advancement of a Deputy District Attorney II or similarly qualified candidate.
- Equivalent to a Juris Doctorate degree from an accredited law school required.
- Current license to practice law in Colorado, or obtain it within two (2) months of hire required.
Deputy District Attorney IV - Deputy District Attorney IV positions are generally filled by the advancement of a Deputy District Attorney III or similarly qualified candidate.
- Equivalent to a Juris Doctorate degree from an accredited law school required.
- Must be licensed to practice law in the state of Colorado.
