    This position will be with the Missouri Department of Natural Resources, Missouri State Parks, and will be located at Big Oak Tree State Park, 13640 S Hwy 102, East Prairie, MO 63845. Standard work shift is from 6:30 a.m. - 3 p.m. Monday - Friday but will vary according to facility demands with some weekends required. This position will assist Trail of Tears State Park and other state park/historic sites as needed.

    • Responsible for performing a variety of semi-skilled work in the maintenance and repair of state buildings and facilities.
    • Work in a variety of trade areas such as electrical, plumbing, carpentry, concrete and masonry, painting, welding, and mechanical repair.
    • Routine cleaning of park buildings, restrooms, and park grounds and trails.
    • Operate and maintain vehicles, lawn mowers, tractors, chainsaws, leaf blowers, and similar mechanical equipment.
    • Use basic computer skills for timekeeping, report tracking and training.
    • Assist visitors with questions about the park and surrounding area.
    • Assist with prescribed burns, wildfire suppression, herbicide application, and other natural or cultural activities as directed.
    • May train and oversee temporary employees or a crew engaged in maintenance tasks.
    • Participate in meetings, workshops and seminars requiring overnight stays.


    To be successful in this position, a candidate will need the following skills:

    Equivalent to those typically gained by:

    • 1-3 years of experience in any of the following trade areas: electrical, plumbing, concrete and masonry, carpentry, painting and mechanical repair. (Additional education or experience may substitute for the required education or experience)


    This position may be required to obtain and maintain appropriate commercial operator’s license, water/wastewater certifications, and/or other required licenses/certification. If required and if you do not currently possess this license/certification, you will be given twelve months to obtain necessary license/certification.

    This position will be required to complete Level 1 Prescribed Fire training within one year of employment. As a park employee you will perform routine duties and/or assist with controlled burns or wildfire.
