    The BioResource and Agricultural Engineering Department in the College of Agriculture, Food, and Environmental Sciences at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, is seeking applications for a two-year, full-time, academic year lecturer in Engineering Surveying starting September 11, 2025, ending May 21, 2027.

    This position will primarily teach undergraduate classes in Engineering Surveying. However, additional teaching assignments may be available depending on the candidate’s background and the department's needs. This may include courses in CAD, GIS, drone surveying, structures and materials, systems management, or advanced surveying. Candidates must have knowledge of basic surveying skills, including the use of automatic levels, total stations, RTK GNSS units, and data collectors. Candidates must also have knowledge of surveying concepts such as static GNSS surveys, imaging, total stations, datums, licensing laws, and the land surveying profession.

    Initial rank and salary for lecturer faculty are based on professional experience and educational background and are determined by the hiring department. Most new lecturers are hired at the Lecturer A or B rank. As of July 2024, the classification salary ranges for the respective ranks are:

    Lecturer A: $5,507 - $6,677

    Lecturer B: $6,221 - $13,224

    Lecturer C: $6,825 - $14,523

    Lecturer D: $8,593 - $15,211

    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
    • B.S. degree in Surveying, Engineering, or other relevant discipline with a minimum of 5 years of experience as a surveyor and professional registration as a Land Surveyor or Civil Engineer, OR B.S. degree in Surveying, Engineering, or other relevant discipline with a minimum of 10 years of experience as a surveyor and the ability to obtain a professional registration as a Land Surveyor or Civil Engineer within two years, OR an advanced degree (Ph.D. or M.S.) in Surveying, Engineering, or other relevant discipline with experience in land surveying.
    • Knowledge of basic surveying skills, including the use of automatic levels, total stations, RTK GNSS units, and data collectors.
    • Knowledge of surveying concepts such as static GNSS surveys, imaging stations, datums, licensing laws, and the land surveying profession.
    • The ability to hike to and around the survey practice fields on campus.
    • The ability to set or reset survey monuments and maintain surveying equipment as needed.
    • Demonstrated interest in undergraduate teaching, and demonstrated experience and commitment to student-centered learning and teaching. Demonstrated proficiency in written and oral used of the English language.
    • The ability to be a productive team player, work collaboratively in multidisciplinary settings, and interact well with peers, students, industry, government agencies, and the public.
    • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion in teaching, and demonstrated commitment to inclusive practices and working with a diverse student body,
    • Excellent interpersonal skills.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

    M.S. in Geodesy, Geomatic Engineering, or a closely related discipline is preferred. Professional registration as a Land Surveyor or Civil Engineer is also preferred.

    The ability to collaborate with faculty across the College and University is desirable. Preference will be given to those with experience working with diverse populations and fostering a collaborative, supportive, and inclusive environment. Preference will also be given to those with relevant work experience who bring professional capabilities and those who can build connections with industry and foster new relationships.

    SPECIAL CONDITIONS

    The person holding this position is considered a 'mandated reporter' under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment.
