    The Position: Assistant Tenure-Track Professor of Interior Architecture

    Position Starts: Fall 2025

    College: Humanities and Fine Arts

    Salary: Salary commensurate with education and experience. (Anticipated hiring range: $74,652 - $ 81,900 per year).

    Minimum Qualifications:

    The minimum education requirement for appointment to this position is a terminal degree (MFA, MArch, MIArch, PhD, or equivalent) in Interior Architecture, Interior Design, Architecture, or a related field. Candidates nearing completion of the terminal degree may be considered; however, all requirements for conferral of the degree must be met no later than the start date of the position. Demonstrated knowledge of current trends in design and architecture such as sustainability, innovative technology, or inclusivity in design. NCIDQ certification or intention to obtain NCIDQ certification. Candidate must have achieved licensure by end of their third year to continue employment.

    Responsibilities:

    This tenure-track position carries responsibilities in the areas of university-level teaching, professional development and creative scholarship, and service to the department and university. Interior Architecture faculty carry a 4/4 course load (following four semesters at 3/3 for incoming faculty). The successful candidate will teach undergraduate studio and lecture courses within the Interior Architecture program and occasional foundations studio art courses, including a broad range of courses in design theory and practice, e.g. sustainable design, materiality, digital design tools (such as CAD, BIM) and fabrication, building systems, building codes, and interior design history in a studio-based learning setting. Faculty engage in curriculum development, student advising, mentorship, and fostering a cross-cultural learning environment. Faculty are expected to contribute to research and creative scholarship in the field (e.g., participate and present at conferences, publish research, engage in industry collaborations and community-based projects) and participate in departmental, college, and university service, including committee work and program outreach. Faculty are also expected to participate in the potential pursuit of CIDA accreditation.

    The Department:

    The Department of Art and Art History is NASAD accredited. The Department offers BA options in Art Education, Art History, and Art Studio; and a BFA program with options in Art Studio and Interior Architecture. An MA is offered in Art History. The Department of Art and Art History faculty members are a dedicated group of artists and scholars deeply involved in art, pedagogy, and in bringing our work out of the classroom into our communities. Our students reflect the campus’s Diversity, Equity and Inclusion values. They push boundaries and produce reflective work for our galleries and other public venues that engage with contemporary issues. We have thirteen full-time faculty, a large pool of part-time faculty, and five staff. The studio areas are well equipped with labs for interior architecture, art education, ceramics, drawing, digital media, glass, painting, photography, printmaking, and sculpture. The Interior Architecture Area regularly serves 100+ majors. Art History has strengths in Mesoamerican, Medieval, and Modern/Contemporary, with specialists in postcolonial and critical race studies, feminism and gender studies, structuralism and semiotics. Art Education has strengths in Cultural Diversity in Art Education and Visual Culture. The Ira Latour Visual Resources Center is an award-winning learning/teaching center that houses an extensive collection of books, periodicals, videos, and digital images. Other important teaching resources include the Hopper Visiting Artists series and the Jacki Headley University Art Gallery, which presents exhibitions of regional- and nationally- based artists. The Janet Turner Print Museum produces exhibitions and maintains an extensive permanent study collection of over 4,000 prints from the 16th century to the present.
