Job Summary: Led by faculty SMEs, the Analyst/Programmer will assist faculty in creating prototypes of emerging media applications for the Faculty Center of Excellence, Instructional Design and Academic Technologies in the XREAL Lab and reports to the Faculty Director. Under direct supervision, they will support faculty in integrating emerging media into their curriculum, assist in xREAL Lab workshops and institutes in the area of expertise, engage in research and development, collaborate with Multimedia and Immersive Technologies to maintain equipment, and provide trainings.
Duties and responsibilities Faculty/ Staff Support:
Under direct supervision,
- Support with the development of customized applications and solutions leveraging immersive media technologies, such as virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), and mixed reality (MR). Propose solutions within specialty to specific instructional and research needs identified by faculty members.
- Collaborate closely with faculty members to understand their teaching objectives, research goals, and technical requirements
- Assist staff to design and deliver training sessions, workshops, and seminars to educate faculty members on the use of emerging technologies in instruction and research, covering topics such as content creation, software tools, hardware setup, and best practices.
- Provide ongoing support and guidance within specialty to faculty members throughout the process of integrating immersive media into their courses or research projects, including but not limited to assistance with content development, technical troubleshooting, and project implementation.
- Support student assistants in standard operations and practices for faculty projects or emerging technologies, ensuring they are equipped to perform effectively.
- Collaborate with other support staff within the Multimedia and Immersive Technologies (MIT) department to coordinate resources, share expertise, and streamline support services for faculty members utilizing immersive technologies.
- Provide standard support and consultation to MIT department faculty and staff, within job scope, on immersive media technologies, including hardware and software guidance, and project planning.
- Stay informed about the latest developments, tools, and techniques in the field of immersive media and emerging technologies, and proactively share relevant information and resources with faculty members and staff to support their professional development and ongoing learning.
- Foster a collaborative environment within the MIT department by facilitating knowledge-sharing sessions, collaborative projects, and interdisciplinary initiatives that leverage immersive technologies for teaching, learning, and research. Coordinate resources, share expertise, and streamline support services for faculty members utilizing immersive technologies.
- Provide standard support and consultation to MIT department faculty and staff, within job scope, on immersive media technologies, including hardware and software guidance, and project planning.
- Stay informed about the latest developments, tools, and techniques in the field of immersive media and emerging technologies, and proactively share relevant information and resources with faculty members and staff to support their professional development and ongoing learning.
Research and development (R&D):
Under direct supervision,
- Assist faculty and Multimedia and Immersive Technologies (MIT) staff in exploring, investigating, and experimenting with cutting-edge technologies, such as virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), mixed reality (MR), and artificial intelligence (AI), to enhance learning experiences.
- Assist with supervised research within specialty to identify best practices in utilizing emerging technologies for education.
- Assist with the design and development of prototypes showcasing the potential applications of VR, AR, MR, and AI in education.
- Under direct supervision, evaluate new technologies and workflows for their effectiveness and scalability.
- Provide guidance within the specialty on integrating emerging technologies into instructional design and curriculum development.
- Participate in a culture of innovation within the organization by sharing knowledge and best practices.
- Participate in collaborative efforts across divisions in the field of immersive technologies and education.
Learning Technologies:
Under direct supervision,
- Assist in the selection and deployment of appropriate immersive technology platforms.
- Provide technical support for immersive technology platforms within specialty.
- Ensure smooth operation and optimal utilization of immersive technology platforms within instructional and research settings.
Professional Development:
Under direct supervision,
- Actively pursues continuous professional development to enhance expertise in emerging technologies for learning, including virtual reality (VR), artificial intelligence (AI), and other technologies requested by faculty.
- Under guidance, engages in self-directed learning, research, and experimentation to enhance proficiency in the latest advancements of emerging technologies in educational contexts.
- Participates in relevant training programs, workshops, conferences, and online courses to stay updated on industry trends, best practices, and cutting-edge developments in the field of educational technology.
- Collaborates with peers, industry experts, and academic networks to exchange knowledge, share insights, and contribute to the collective understanding of emerging technologies for learning.
- Seeks opportunities, under direct supervision, to apply newly acquired knowledge and skills through hands-on projects, pilot initiatives, and collaborative research efforts that demonstrate the potential impact and value of emerging technologies in education.
- Actively contributes to the professional development of colleagues, faculty members, and stakeholders by sharing expertise in the specialty and within classification.
Other:
- Assist with maintaining and improving the equipment and systems of the MIT department and the xREAL Lab.
- Performs other classification-related duties as assigned in connection to faculty, staff, and student success initiatives.
Minimum Qualifications: - Equivalent to a bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Business, or related technical field required.
Required Qualifications: - A basic foundation of knowledge and skills in applications programming and systems analysis and related programming support functions is a prerequisite. Foundation knowledge and skills for the Analyst/Programmer, depending on the position assignment, may include working knowledge of a specific industry standard applications programming language and knowledge of standard systems analysis techniques.
Compensation and Benefits: Anticipated Hiring Range: $4,094 per month
Classification Salary Range: $4,094 - $7,881 per month
The salary offered will take into account internal equity and experience among other factors.
