    Starting Salary: $17.81 - Depending on Qualifications

    The City of Waco Seeks
    We are seeking a compassionate and detail-oriented WIC Certification Specialist to join our team! In this role, you will play a crucial part in empowering families by determining eligibility for the WIC program through thorough interviews and documentation collection. Your expertise in performing basic physical status checks and providing assessments and education will directly impact the health and well-being of our community.

    Position Overview:
    Under basic supervision, completes the certification of WIC applicants and performs tasks involving issuing, scheduling, and maintaining participant files.

    Minimum Qualifications:
    Required:
    • High School Diploma or GED
    • 1 year of customer service experience in a clinical or health setting
    • Texas Driver's License
    • Successful completion of WIC State WCS training within 1 year of hire
    Preferred:
    • Breastfeeding experience with previous and/or current experience with WIC is desired.
    • Some health science college coursework
    • Bilingual
    Essential Functions:
    • Interviews residents and collects documentation to determine client's WIC program eligibility; performs basic physical status checks; provides nutrition assessments and education and maintains records.
    • Performs tasks involving the completion of certifications, issuance of benefits, scheduling/rescheduling, follow-up appointments, file maintenance and provides general WIC information.

    Governance and Organization

    Waco is a home rule city with a council-manager form of government. The City Council is comprised of a Mayor, elected at-large, and five City Council members representing single-member districts, all serving two-year terms. The City Council sets the tax rate, approves the budget, appoints members to City boards and commissions, enacts City ordinances, and appoints the City Manager, City Attorney, City Secretary, and the Municipal Court Judge.

    The City has a strong Financial Management Policy that guides the operation and delivery of quality City services, contributes to excellent AA+ and Aa1 bond ratings, and maintains an unassigned fund balance reserve in the General Fund equal to 28% of current year budgeted expenditures. The City of Waco has more than 1,600 employees and a total operating budget of over $400 million.

    The City provides a full range of municipal services including a regional airport, animal services, building inspections, code enforcement, convention and visitors bureau, emergency management, housing and community development, economic development, fire, public health, library, municipal court, parks and recreation, planning, police, public works, Texas Ranger Hall of Fame Museum, utilities and zoo operations.
