    The City of Waco Seeks:
    A field supervisor to lead a team at the forefront of maintaining exceptional outdoor spaces that our community can safely enjoy. This role oversees and coordinates daily maintenance operations in our parks and City of Waco grounds, specializing in Arboriculture.     Job Summary:
    Under basic supervision, supervises work crews and special events crews cleaning and maintaining City parks, grounds, and equipment; prioritizes and assigns work and verifies the quality of work completed.

    Minimum Qualifications:
    • Associate's degree in Landscape Management, Earth Sciences, or related
    • Five (5) years of experience in landscaping, grounds maintenance, or construction, including supervisory experience
      • Or an equivalent combination of education and experience
    • Valid Driver's License
    • Texas Class B CDL within 90 days of hire
    • International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) Certified Arborist within 1 year of hire
    Essential Functions:
    • Supervises and leads staff, including special events crews, in maintaining and cleaning City parks and facilities; works independently and makes appropriate decisions based on work experience; duties may vary according to job assignment.
    • Assigns work, assures appropriate tools, equipment and materials are at the job site; monitors work site to assure that safety rules and regulations are followed and that the work zone and all equipment are in safe operating condition; reviews the work of assigned staff to assure the work quality and timely accomplishment of assigned duties and responsibilities; supervises setup for special events.
    • Supervises a variety of administrative activities including records management, employee scheduling, payroll reporting and work activity reports; purchases supplies, maintains inventories and assures those adequate materials, supplies, and tools are available.
    • Oversees City-wide program of care and maintenance of trees on public properties, parks, and forested areas of the City.
    • Coordinates activities in the planning, implementing and monitoring of landscape maintenance and forestry projects.
    • Schedules, oversees, and assists with the inspection, planting, removal, pruning, trimming and maintenance of trees on City property.
    • Instructs personnel in good forestry practices; inspects trees for pests and disease and schedules appropriate treatments.
    • Prepares budget requests for forestry programs; supervises maintenance of tree and plant nursery stock; creates requisitions and purchasing of materials. Drafts reports and prepares contract specifications, solicits bids, monitors contract work in the field.
    • May be required to respond afterhours, including holidays and weekends, in the event of a departmental or City-wide emergency.

    Governance and Organization

    Waco is a home rule city with a council-manager form of government. The City Council is comprised of a Mayor, elected at-large, and five City Council members representing single-member districts, all serving two-year terms. The City Council sets the tax rate, approves the budget, appoints members to City boards and commissions, enacts City ordinances, and appoints the City Manager, City Attorney, City Secretary, and the Municipal Court Judge.

    The City has a strong Financial Management Policy that guides the operation and delivery of quality City services, contributes to excellent AA+ and Aa1 bond ratings, and maintains an unassigned fund balance reserve in the General Fund equal to 28% of current year budgeted expenditures. The City of Waco has more than 1,600 employees and a total operating budget of over $400 million.

    The City provides a full range of municipal services including a regional airport, animal services, building inspections, code enforcement, convention and visitors bureau, emergency management, housing and community development, economic development, fire, public health, library, municipal court, parks and recreation, planning, police, public works, Texas Ranger Hall of Fame Museum, utilities and zoo operations.
