    The Job

    The Department of Public Health, Clinic Operations is accepting applications for Health Center Office Assistant who perform basic clerical support duties in a healthcare environment. Duties may include but are not limited to:
    • Answering the Health Center patient access line and providing requested Health Center information or services via phone.
    • Greeting patients and providing accurate information and assistance regarding Health Center programs and services offered.
    • Answering questions regarding specific departmental procedures and practices.
    • Processing a variety of documents and maintaining files.
    • Scheduling patient appointments in the electronic health record (EHR) system in accordance with insurance eligibility and Health Center practices.
    • Screens and check-in patients through the EHR system.
    • Assists with providing and determining insurance eligibility and program qualifications for the Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) Sliding Fee Program.
    • Preparing letters, reports, invoices, and other documents;
    • Performing data entry.

    CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT



    Pre-Employment Process: Incumbents must pass a background investigation, which includes fingerprinting, work history and education verification, as well as a job-related physical exam and drug screening.

    Shift work and/or weekend work: Some departments may require shift work and/or weekend work. Must indicate availability on the application.

    Minimum Requirements

    Assignment Location: The list established from this recruitment will be used to fill the current vacancies in the High Desert region. Applicants who do not indicate a willingness to work in the High Desert region will be disqualified.

    Applicant must meet one of the following options:

    Option 1:
    Six (6) months of full-time equivalent in-office clerical experience.

    Option 2:
    Healthcare certificate, license, or degree (Medical Assistant certificate, CNA certificate, or a closely related healthcare certification).

    Option 3:
    Three (3) months in a healthcare setting (includes hospital, clinic, FQHC, DBH, DPH, corrections, dental offices).

    Job duties must be clearly detailed on the Application. Retail sales and food service experience are not considered qualifying.

    Desired Qualifications

    Candidates with experience in health and dental care, working in a FQHC, using an electronic health record system (EHR) such as Athena Health and, Dentrix are highly desirable.

    Bilingual Skills(Spanish/English)are highly desirable and should be noted on the application. Candidates who wish to be considered for bilingual (Spanish/English) positions must indicate bilingual skills on the application. Bilingual compensation may be available; additional testing may be required.
