    The Position

    Incumbents function as first-line supervisors who train, supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned staff; assign and review work; and initiate disciplinary action.

    The Department of Taxation is currently recruiting for a Supervisor, Locally Assessed Properties. The position supervises property tax appraisers who review and audit property valuation and assessment functions performed by county assessors. The incumbent also performs appraisals, provides expert testimony, exhibits, and drafts decision letters on appraisal and assessment matters before the Nevada Tax Commission, State and county boards of equalization, Legislature and other bodies. The incumbent plans, develops, and coordinates schedules for completion of the work products by staff; ensures appraisal techniques are correctly employed, develops sound working relationships with county officials with regard to information exchange; and develops and implements appraisal and assessment standards through regulations and guidance letters. The incumbent uses applied statistics to analyze the uniformity and consistency of property tax appraisals.     To Qualify:

    In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
    Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications) Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in business administration, public administration or related field and four years of appraisal experience for tax purposes, two years of which included statistical analysis of appraised properties for purposes of equalization; OR Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in business administration, public administration or related field and four years of financial and accounting management experience involving the valuation of property; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above. Special Notes Certification as a Property Tax Appraiser by the Nevada Department of Taxation is required within two years of appointment. Special Requirements A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items. A valid driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continued employment. The Examination Application Evaluation Exam The exam will consist of an application evaluation.     The presence of Nevada's earliest inhabitants, beginning about 12,400 years ago, is marked by many petroglyphs and archaeological sites. Baskets, decoys, and ingenious traps are evidence of the resourcefulness of these early people in a harsh and arid environment.

    Today, Nevada is the nation's seventh largest state in land area. Several hundred mountain ranges cross its landscape, many with elevations over 10,000 feet. In contrast, the State's lowest point (along the Colorado River) is only 470 feet above sea level. From majestic mountains to desert valleys, nature has endowed Nevada with diverse and unique ecosystems.
