    The Position

    Transportation Planner/Analysts participate in transportation system analysis, a continuing comprehensive and cooperative planning process, research programs or projects, safety programs and/or related functional areas as mandated by, and within the guidelines of, federal, State and local authorities; monitor, develop and implement State and federal funding and programming/planning requirements and ensure compliance with federal funding requirements.

    Incumbents perform in a trainee capacity and acquire the knowledge, skills and abilities required in this occupation. Incumbents perform basic tasks or elements of the job not requiring the additional knowledge, skills and abilities to perform at the next level in the series.

    This recruitment will be used to fill multiple positions within the Planning Multimodal Program Development Division. These positions are located in Carson City within the Planning Multimodal Program Development Division. Roles involve overseeing Bicycle and Pedestrian Planning efforts; overseeing the preparation and reporting of the Safe Routes to School (SRTS) Program and Transportation Alternatives Program (TAP) grant support; providing training to other NDOT staff on the preparation and development of SRTS tasks required by the FHWA; overseeing the preparation and reporting of the State Planning and Research Program (SPR); coordinating the Unified Annual Work Program (UPWP); overseeing assigned grant programs; and providing training to both NDOT and other staff on preparation of SPR, UPWP, and grant submittals. NOTE: THIS RECRUITMENT MAY BE USED TO UNDERFILL A TRANSPORTATION PLANNER/ANALYST 2.     To Qualify:

    In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
    Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications) Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a degree in engineering, business administration, planning, math, geography, economics, statistics or related field and one year of professional experience in one or more of the following: conducting and participating in transportation analysis, planning or research programs; developing studies, reports, and master plans; collecting and analyzing data; forecasting trends and developments; developing alternatives to achieve goals and identify available financing; OR one year of experience as a Transportation Planner/Analyst Trainee in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience. The Examination Application Evaluation Exam The exam will consist of an application evaluation.     The presence of Nevada's earliest inhabitants, beginning about 12,400 years ago, is marked by many petroglyphs and archaeological sites. Baskets, decoys, and ingenious traps are evidence of the resourcefulness of these early people in a harsh and arid environment.

    Today, Nevada is the nation's seventh largest state in land area. Several hundred mountain ranges cross its landscape, many with elevations over 10,000 feet. In contrast, the State's lowest point (along the Colorado River) is only 470 feet above sea level. From majestic mountains to desert valleys, nature has endowed Nevada with diverse and unique ecosystems.
