This position will be located at in the Division of Environmental Quality - Environmental Remediation Program at 1730 E. Elm Street Jefferson City, MO.
You’ll love this position if you like leading a team of skilled professionals working to promote the responsible operation and closure of underground storage tanks and overseeing environmental cleanups when releases occur.
- Provide leadership and direction to 30+ team members in the Underground Storage Tank Section. This individual will directly supervise five Unit Chiefs overseeing the Administrative; Advanced Cleanup; Closure, Release, and Investigation; Compliance and Technology; and Risk-Based Corrective Action Units.
- Work cooperatively and coordinate with internal and external partners including, but not limited to, the Environmental Protection Agency, Petroleum Storage Tank Insurance Fund, Missouri Geological Survey, and Environmental Services Program.
- Inform and advise the Environmental Remediation Program Director on high-profile tank sites or issues. Involvement may include responding to management, external stakeholders, the media, and state or local elected officials.
- Develop and promote efficiencies within the Tanks Section to increase tank compliance rates, reduce the cleanup backlog, and improve the rate of petroleum release cleanup.
- Assist the Environmental Remediation Program’s Budget Section in the development, tracking, and management of annual budgets. This individual may also help develop proposed legislation, prepare rulemakings, and review fiscal notes or bill reviews.

Equivalent to those typically gained by:
- Bachelor's degree and six or more years of relevant experience in the environmental field with supervisory experience
- Interpreting and implementing environmental statute and regulations
- Developing and managing budgets
- Stakeholder engagement and negotiation
Training, certification, and/or education in continuous process improvement programs such as Lean Six Sigma as well as completion of Missouri Way, Leadership Academy, and similar programs is preferred.
