    Duration: May/June - September 2025 (Summer)
    Hours: Monday - Friday, 8 am to 4 pm (flexible)

    Overview
    •The Environmental Stewardship Intern will assist the Niagara Region Environmental Stewardship team with a variety of projects related to invasive species management, habitat restoration, climate change, and stewardship of natural resources with 20+ parks in the Niagara Region.
    •The position is based in DeVeaux Woods State Park, Niagara Falls; however, projects and duties will be in parks throughout the Niagara Region (Erie and Niagara Counties). An OPRHP vehicle will be provided to travel to various parks.
    •Interns typically work approximately 20 hours per week over three weekdays.

    Job Duties
    •Monitoring of past OPRHP restoration and habitat management projects.
    •Surveying, mapping, and the removal of invasive species.
    •Surveying and mapping rare or native plants and animals.
    •Releasing, monitoring, and data collection of biocontrol agents for Emeral Ash
    Borer (EAB) and other invasive species.
    •Attend meetings with Parks staff and other New York State agencies.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Qualifications
    •Current undergraduate or graduate student pursuing a degree at a SUNY institution in environmental sciences, biology, environmental engineering, landscape architecture, or similar discipline.
    •Candidates must be self-motivated, able to initiate projects and tasks, have good time management and organizational skills, and effectively work with others.
    •Candidates must be comfortable doing manual labor & working outside in a variety of weather conditions.
    •Experience with animal/plant identification preferred but not necessary.
    •Experience with a variety of hand tools, map reading, and GPS/GIS preferred but not necessary.
    •Must have valid driver’s license to operate OPRHP vehicles.

    Additional Comments

    This internship is only open to currently enrolled SUNY students.
